Under 20K... I really like the Mini Cooper.

Starts at 16,950...

Very fun and nimble to drive. Not very practical on room though.

Don't really like the current offerings from the major manufacturers with perhaps the only exception of the Mazda 3.

Saturn Sky/Pontiac Solstice....if they are under 20k. I think all you get are pedals a seat and a steering wheel though.

Always have to go around the question, don't you, BlueEyes?

Haha, just pick a car. If it could be used, then you can get even an rx8 for less than 20k...

Sentra SPEC-V, you can rip the tires loose all the way up to 5th gear and it has really tight suspension. It's a pretty ugly car though.

MINIs are one of the few cars that are drastically marked up from their MSRP. You won't find a MINI for 16,950. You'll probably get them at $18,000 at the very best. More likely than not around $19,000 for the base, stripped down model.

A friend of mine loves that car and I was saying she should get it since it's so cheap, but she pointed out that it was marked up. At that time, the base model was marked up to over 20K actually. Now it looks like it's a bit below 20, but more than 20 after tax and licensing.

My choice would be the Mazda 3 Hatchback or the Scion xB (it's ugly but it's grown on me). No haggling on the xB which I think is a good thing. Then you don't ever have to worry about getting ripped off or someone getting a better deal than you.

What about the new mustang, I think it's under $20k with none of the options. IMHO it's still a fine automobile.

Toyota Corolla XRS comes to mind. Spec V competitor, but I'd buy it any day over the Nissan.

Mazdaspeed protege, with a few bolt ons to let the turbo breathe and a set of springs you have a very quick and agile car

Mazda 6? You can pick up a v6 MTX for under 17k if you ride the rebate wave and jump on the employee pricing. Hard to beat that car for under 17k.
