Why not?

Why hasnt a car been made that looks incredible like a ferrari or something maybe not to that extent but a hot looking car with an import theme with just a 4 cylinder 2.5 liter engine with a decent interior for pretty cheap i mean i think if their was a car that looked as hott as some of these cars that cost 80 grand it would sell.

-They call it the 2nd generation MR2. :D In all seriousness, I believe that toyota got the design specs from lotus for the 2. They've had a close relationship in the past, that's why lotus went with the 2ZZ-GE engine in the Elise (that and because it could pass emissions here in the states).

......ummmm, I know the 8's not a 4cyl, but doesn't it qualify for all these criterias?

You've got to admit the styling of the 8 is very exotic and it certainly looks more expensive then what it is.
The interior's pretty decent as well for the money.

Yeah, I always thought the MR-2 looked like a mini Esprit.

you could probably get a kit car replica and drop it on some smaller chasis.

Back in the "70's we had the Opel GT, kind of looked like a 'vette. Also the Lancia Scorpion, Fiat X1/9, Triumph TR7 & TR8 were kind of exotic looking for their time. And the Lotus Europa. I'm sure there were more. I think the problem is not a big enough market now for sports cars. Look how many different SUV's are out there. That's what people are buying. In the 70's I don't remember more than a couple SUV's. And those where truck based.

I remember reading about that car somewhere, but I can't remember the exact prices. $50,000(ish) is coming to mind, but I could be wrong.

that proto motors car is ugly. There is no flow to it's design, too harsh.

Crating a car lake that wouldn't sell as well as other cars, it would apeal only to just graduated students that don't have the cash for a real sports car but want the flare.

People with money will not buy it because it's not a "real" sports car,
Most parents of graduating stude3nts wont go for it because it's not practical
and the rest just aren't into sports/sporty cars.

Just IMO.

It wouldn't sell well if you made a unique looking sports car that had no power.

Also, good looks come at a price. You don't get a Lamborghini paint job on a $20,000 car. You'd essentually be getting a ricemobile, all flash and little under the hood.

Just put a nicer body on the STI or EVO. Power and looks for $30,000. I don't know why they put all that tech. into four door boxy cars.

So that they wouldn't have to do any development to change it from a four door boxy car. Otherwise they would have to charge more than 30k.

I agree, but why put your most powerful motor in a four door boxy car? The Eclipse at least looks somewhat like a sporty/sports car. Same for the WRX (sorry Ike), great motor in a boxy four door. Stick any of those turbo fours in a rear drive 2700lb. car and you've got a killer.

You don't think the Evo looks sporty? Even with the wing and the intercooler? It's a rally-bred car, not a sports car.
