"If you had your druthers, you'd have maximum downforce in the corners but little downforce on the straightaway,"

We need someone to figure that one out!

got some great quotes from the article.

NASCAR teams are barred from changing the shapes of their cars during a race.
Taken out of context, it sounds pretty silly.

And..

One way they get around this is by adding tape to the front grill. This increases downforce on the front of the car by causing more air to flow over the hood.
NASCAR = STICKERS = RICE

no, I hate nascar, but I won't deny they're still a race with race cars. How many taped up ricers can run 200mph on a track (most have never seen a track anyway) all day long?

People have, active aero is banned in every racing series I can think of. For the street it's overly complex and unnecessary.

There are several street cars that have active aero rear wings (eg. Porsche 911, Crossfire). But the only race car that had it was the Chaparral 2E that ran in the Can-Am series. The car also had an automatic transmission. Everytime the driver lifted his foot off the throttle, the rear wing would tilt down. This would increase downforce and the associated drag would create an aero brake. On the straights, it would level out to reduce drag.
