Who's your daddy?
you can buy a used boxster for a lot less than an RX-8. So no, it doesn't shock me.
I had a lot more disposable income when I was in my early 20's than I do now simply because I didn't have a house, family, and a ton of bills to pay. So my second car was a 944, and third car was a convertable 993.

I left my keys in my convertible mustang today at Target.
I went inside to ask for help, but because of liability, they refused to help me. So I went looking for a clothes hanger. None - all they had were wood and plastic types.
So I bought a knife. Went back to the car, made a tiny slit in the roof over the driver's head. I unscrewed the antenna, put it thru the slit, and hit the unlock button. No one blinked or asked what I was doing as I broke into my own car....
Anyway, my point is, a convertible can come in handy sometimes.
If I had the RX-8, I'd not have left the keys since it beeps.
