Oh, and they both have nearly zero luggage space, making them useless for touring (like the MR2S). The Miata should do OK against these two.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Most Miata enthusiasts aren't really interested in a ~2900lb version of a car they already own.

Vauxhalls....(shudder)....
As an old geezer who grew up with, drove and fixed (and fixed and fixed) them, it is strange to hear people drooling over a Vauxhall......
Forgive and forget if you will, but Mr.Vs' last effort in the US market was a little horror named the 'Envoy Epic', and widely known as the Worst Car Ever. Not the runner-up.....worst. Solely responsible for the awful reputation of cheap British cars.
I hope it's genes come more from the Lotus parent.
Also an excellent idea to go with the Toyota motor, no point even trying to coax a Vauxhall engine to perform.

I think it would have an easier time stealing sales from Mazda if it weren't a Saturn...That company has developed a particularly nasty stigma to a lot of people over the years.

well said, i came from a country where Vauxhalls are for sale. Well let's just say, Ford cars are considered reliable purchases.
Alot of young 'uns here.

Saturn has always been one of the cars I despise. About 10 years ago I went on a test drive to see what the buzz was about and I heard it alright. I went on a test drive and it was loud in there...I mean like a truck! I kept asking the salesperson if there was something wrong...she was clueless....then I popped the hood and noticed the firewall wasn't much of a firewall at all and with a screw driver I could puncture a whole in it. Since then I've not only never bought a Saturn but refuse to ride in them. Now at the time their 'sports car' wash pushing 100HP and their sedans were around 90.
Saturn and VW create this illusion of eclusivity...kind of like a club you've got to be in...similar to the apple marketing Phenomenon. I still hate VW (personal reasons) but they make much better cars than Saturn...Apple does well with some of their products as well (hit jackpot with the Ipod).
Moral of my stupid...critical...story is don't buy Saturn and don't buy this POS went it comes out looking like well a POS.
