LA MARQUE, Texas – A man blamed a low-flying pelican and a dropped cell phone for his veering his million-dollar sports car off a road and into a salt marsh near Galveston. The accident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on the frontage road of Interstate 45 northbound in La Marque, about 35 miles southeast of Houston.

The Lufkin, Texas, man told of driving his luxury, French-built Bugatti Veyron when the bird distracted him, said La Marque police Lt. Greg Gilchrist. The motorist dropped his cell phone, reached to pick it up and veered off the road and into the salt marsh. The car was half-submerged in the brine about 20 feet from the road when police arrived.

Gilchrist said he doesn't know if the car was salvageable, but in his words, "Salt water isn't good for anything." He says the man, whose identity hasn't been released, was not injured.

A 2006 Bugatti Veyron was recently offered for sale in Jonesboro, Ark., for $1.25 million.

^^ What I got out of that article is that there are 15 Veyrons in the US and Lil Wayne owns one of them.

lol's poor car shouldn't be driven by old people, they don't know how to use fast cars. and why would someone even bother picking up a dropped phone while driving a million dollar car? He deserves to pay lol's and insurance shouldn't for once. :D

It was actually some old guy driving it, which is why it was that much more hilarious.

I would be interested in your credentials to driving a "fast car". Most children with your attitued belong the wheel of soap box derby vehicle.

I think I'm a pretty good driver, never had a ticket or crash. And I baby my cars lol's. And I would never reach down for a phone while driving, just common sense. And is being 19 years old really still considered being a "kid"? It's not like I go speeding off in public trying to racing everything I see lol's I never really get to do much with my car since I got it only a year and a half ago when i was/am in college and CSU's aren't so cheap... so don't go attacking me, maybe I was politically incorrect by saying "old people" I was just upset that someone with such an expensive car crashed it because he was picking up a phone.

As supporting evidence, I should note that my class for AutoX in the Sacramento region was won by a 75 year old in a Camaro. He whooped up on us 20-somethings (I'm 24) badly. And let's see, oh, one of the Sacramento regions contenders for the ASP drives a heavily modded Viper at the age of 60. Let's face it, we're all just a bunch of snot nosed punks compared to a lot of these guys. They just have enough common sense to not be jackasses on the road. Now, the guy driving the Veyron. He's simply an idiot when it comes to driving (he was able to make some serious cash in his lifetime so he can't be an idiot all around). Being "old" has nothing to do with it.

And yes, Emperor Ben, you are still a kid. It more relates to life experience than age, but it's amazing how often the two go hand in hand. You know and understand one thing, school. You've never really been outside of your comfort zone. Not a bashing, just a point of contemplation. Wait until you get a post-college grown up job. Or serve time in the military, that's life experience in the express lane......

No one with common sense will reach down for a phone while driving, in fact why was he using the phone? Yes in my state being under 21 is considered being a "kid". My problem with your post was lumping all "old people" under the umbrella of bad drivers. I noticed that you did not like being placed under the "kid" umbrella . I don't mind being called an old person (cuz I am) but being placed with the incompetents irks me. Sorry if I came across to hard.

Being car people has nothing to do with age - just the desire to compete in the media that we all seem to enjoy.................cars.............be it racing or appearance.

Around here, the Majority of the "old people" drivers are bad ones. I'm not talking about 60ish, I'm talking about giant black sunglasses and can't stop bobbing/shaking their heads.

Every place has that stereotype "old people". I acknowledge that they exist. Check with your highway patrol and find what age group has the most accidents and the most fatal accidents. Don't know too much about MO but NV, CA and AZ it's drivers between the age of 16 & 25 for both. Usually Old people with giant black sun glasses and bobbing heads are over careful and may be an indirect cause of accidents due to their driving habits and a lack of good driving habits on the actual accident drivers.

In short, there are terrible drivers in all age brackets. Laying it off on us "old people" will not cut it. Check the facts
