Mazda's commercial spends too much time on their cheezy characters and cheezy lines rather than showing off what great vehicles they make. Someone at Mazda's Marketing needs to get fired. If Kia was bad at car designs, then Mazda's like that with their Commercials.

I like the Nissan, BMW, and Volvo commercials. They stick with their cars and not try to insult their market's intelligence by trying to be funny with their cheezy commercials. Here's what happens when a person sees Nissan, BMW or Volvo commercials, "Nice. Let's go test drive that car." Here's what happens when a person sees a Mazda commercial, "Hahah! That's funny. Wait... what was that about?" or <rolling eyes><switch to a different channel> and say "I hate stupid commercials."

My girlfriend drove back from Georgetown, TX yesterday and told me she saw a mazda 3 in "your color" on the road and "it didnt look as good as your car does"

I was like wtf are you talking about? My car is the sports car in the mazda lineup!

"not according to the commercial!"

Mind you she's a valedictorian and one of the smartest people i've ever met. Mazda has terrible commercials.

Whether or not you like VW's, you'll remember those adds when you see them. Mazda's on the ball if you remember them so well.
What you're describing is famous versus infamous. We remember them because they're terrible. They scream, "dont buy our product because if we cant devote any money or thought to our commercials we cant build a decent automobile."

Yes, Monica Lewinski is a household name, but why...

I mean you understand advertising and name recognition is key. Example: Aflac. But when you remember not to buy something that's a bad thing for the advertiser.

3 words...WORD OF MOUTH.

The fact that everyone talks about it, even in a negative way, could perhaps turn another onto Mazda that hadn't even thought of before. Ike telling the world how bad commercials are snowballs into us telling others what they thought about commercials, and even if you get one person to go into a dealership...their advertising worked.

There really isn't a such thing as bad advertising.

Mazda is proof that you're wrong

If you're going to spend the money for a TV spot and make a commercial for it do you think it's a better idea to make a good commercial that makes someone want to buy your cars or one that makes someone say "what a stupid commercial".

I guarantee that the Mazda commercials aren't being talked about at the water cooler, or even much by other car enthusiasts. If this wasn't a Mazda forum this thread would not exist.

Gotta go with Ike on this one...which is a first

Mazda commercials are of the last commercials I would want to see. And it's only being talked about here because they suck, and Ike brings up a good point.

What's the commercial where the hot chick strips down in the elevator into her sporting clothes? Sex appeal works, assuming you remember what brand the commercial was advertising....

Those Celica "looks fast" commercials were an example of good car commercials. Funny stuff, that.

As for current commercials...blah...the majority of people buy boring cars, why not give them boring commercials.

I don't know what it's for. Makes it a bad commercial, so I'll just have to watch it again and again.

There's a lot of campaigns out there that are worse than Mazda's. Since tivo, I don't watch that much live TV, but when I do... I don't remember most of the commercials except in a negative way. Like that Billy guy who is shouting about his Oxy Clean. I hate those ads. I tend to remember the funny commercials myself. I tend to remember bad commercials and avoid their products out of spite, if they annoy me I won't try it, like Quiznos.

I did like the newest Mazda one where the three R&D techs looked back to see all the other countries' techs (the german guy says "ach du lieber"). If you've noticed, Lexus is now doing a similar campaign. Plagiarism is the sincerest form of flattery. Someone thinks Mazda's commercials are working.

The RX-8 is in the new CX-7 commercial. The commercial mentions something about not following the rules, etc. and shows an RX-8 in the background. I was surprised.

If the cars had run down the kid and splattered him on the pavement I would have liked them, a lot!

I personally have never seen an RX-8 only commercial. Mazda's campaign has sucked from the beginning (with the exception of the catchy zoom zoom song).

I say keep on sucking, it keeps my car original and I like being unique

Just saw it for the first time, it's for the Suzuki Forenza, they probably could show the girls tonsils and not sell more of that little turd.

I always found it funny that when the "zoom zoom" ads first came out it was clearly a black guy with a very strong Jamaican accent singing. Then a few months later, the song was exactly the same except the guy singing was replaced by a guy who sounded like he came from Nortel System's accounting department or something.
