according to this article http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/27/v...mically-wrong/ the test did show the system works "most of the time" but in this instance the dummy was "improperly positioned"

The one thing they can claim with this system is that it is not perfect. It is a backup system that will in most cases improve safety, but should not be relied on. I don't think they're trying to market it so that you removed from stopping in the event of a person in front of you.

While I get the general motivation behind addition of safety features, namely to assist in reminding the drive of something that they should be doing and aren't, or reacting before the driver could, it gets to a ridiculous level I think.
I mean, if you want to get from point A to point B while texting, doing your makeup, checking email, finishing your breakfast, without watching the road, without having to maintain lanes, accelerate, maintain distance, brake when needed, park as needed, etc... they have options.
Namely, a bus.
If you want isolation enough to pay for it, it's called a Taxi.
Some of us prefer ... you know ... driving

Although maybe a good safety feature, it may cause people to feel too safe and comfortable to be able to text or change the setup on your cd player. I cant stand the texting, I want to pull up next to them and honk but I am scared it will startle them and cause them to wreck.

Hopefully it will be supplemental to actually using the brakes, instead of replacing the brake pedal. I can sense the future...
"Try the 2012 Volvo! Now with only one pedal! Automatically senses pedestrians, cars, and red lights 95% of the time!"

Volvo really needs to stop announcing these things before they've thoroughly tested them.
then again, it does make for some funny videos.

Until I see their system bringing the car to a complete halt from 70mph around a decreasing radius off-camber rain slick curve while avoiding getting rear ended from the car behind... I'll pass.
