USA Today: Mazda CX-9 "A crossover that's just about perfect"
A crossover that's just about perfect

CX-9 hereby is anointed the best of the breed, knocking off the Acadia — but with caveats. CX-9's reliability is unproved. And competitors are about to update their machines, conceivably knocking CX-9 off the podium. Toyota and Ford show new versions of their Highlander and Freestyle crossover SUVs at the Chicago Auto Show next week. Honda soon will remodel Pilot.....
Drivetrain. The same 3.5-liter V-6 that Mazda's part-owner, Ford Motor, uses in its Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers, but what a difference. The engine sounds athletic in the Mazda, rather than OK-to-strained in the Fords. And Mazda uses a proven Aisin six-speed automatic that shifts wonderfully, up or down. Ford uses a somewhat clumsy-shifting six-speed that it jointly developed with GM. GM uses it in the Acadia/Outlook, among other products, where it's as stumble-footed as the Ford version.
The Mazda-ized powertrain makes the CX-9 a joy. Loves to run, and you'll love to let it.....
Ride, handling. As good a blend of tight precision and comfortable compliance as exists in the SUV world, mainstream or luxury. CX-9 is a ball on curves, and nonchalantly agile around town and parking.....
Overall: Excellent blend of size, style, utility and sportiness.

That article is ancient! But it's very complimentary. Almost as good as the new $25,000 fun car shoot out cover story in the May 2007 Car and Driver that the Speed3 won
