I would agree, but he is under contract to do the Tonight Show for another couple of years and I've never seen him as a performance car guy. He seems to be more of a classic car guy. Maybe after that contract is up.

and i know who's playing the role of Captain Slow in this trio!! lol

HaHa I was goin to say, the oddball carpenter dude fills the roll of James May......I absolutely love Top Gear, I don't think these guy's will be able to pull it off like the brits can. Seems they tried to find the exact American counterpart for the British hosts. I think Adam Corolla will be good, I've seen Foust on TV for years I'm not a huge fan, but we'll see what happens, hopefully it wont crash and burn

Know what would work really well? A major network sucking it up, dropping commercials, and airing the full 60 minute episodes of the original. Hell, they could even sell people on it just by advertising that there will be NO COMMERCIALS. I bet even people who hate cars would tune in just to see what life would be like without commercials. And then this would all lead to the downfall of commercials on cable television!

Sigh. It'd be nice to live over in Utopia, wouldn't it?

ZoomZoomH 06-19-2008 07:16 PM

you know what would be cool for them to do? review all the overseas cars as well as cars in this here US and A.

I wouldn't mind them doing a review on the Tata Nano hahaha

But Corolla is a good host for just about anything.

Did you see his short lived talk show. It was absolutely atrocious. It was the most awkward thing I've ever seen. Corolla is funny when he's making side comments here and there (like on Love Live), but not when he's the main focus and trying to be funny. Since it's taped and there are three of them, it might be ok for him.

Except for the fact that he's not funny. At all.

Top Gear has been out since the late 70's. All you stupid latecomers that are trashing the American show that's not even out are completely ridiculous. The show needs time to develop. And comparing it to the British version makes no sense since they're not competing at all with each other. It can't possibly be worse than Motorweek and they'll probably review a lot more US spec cars (ya know, cars that you might actually buy...).

I doubt it can possibly be as good as the British show, but again, unless you're a complete elitist prick, that shouldn't matter to you. I do think some of the concerns about the commercialization are valid as the show will need sponsors. That to me is the biggest question mark that will determine the overall quality and watchability of the show.

Eh, I hope they bash the britain like the real top gear trashes america.

^+1 I agreed with everything you wrote. Very well stated!

As for Leno, he would be a good guest...maybe a celebrity guest/host for a show...much like Tim Allen or any other well known celebrity who is also known for being a car enthusiast.

I'm still looking forward to it! Sign me up

How fast around the track in the reasonabily priced lawnmower...

The funniest thing I ever saw on Top Gear was Clarkson driving a very, very tiny car in their offices. He went up in the elevator and drove down the aisles in this car he just barely fit into. It had no reverse and others had to pull him out of the elevator and to turn him around. I hadn't laughed so hard in years.

JRichter 06-21-2008 10:57 AM

^ I remember that one, very funny.

CarAndDriver 06-22-2008 05:20 PM

Just on stats alone, only the stunt driver has any decent cred. Carolla drives me crazy and this Stromer guy sounds like someone just hired for his "host" and "fluffy look" credentials.

Groundrush 06-22-2008 08:03 PM

Adam Carolla? In my opinion, he waived his rights to own a pair of testicles when he appeared on "Dancing with the Stars".

anet1737 06-22-2008 08:14 PM

ewe, adam carolla?...ugh...geez

I think NBC canned it...

Damn I thought this update was gonna say this show was on.

I8U 07-07-2009 05:45 PM

Glad NBC decided against it...they would have ruined it. Jeremy and the guys are what makes it right now, don't wanna f up a good thing.
