U.S. Top Gear Hosts Officially Announced by NBC Date posted: 06-16-2008 BURBANK, Calif. — There's an interesting three-man cast for the U.S. version of Top Gear, the famous British car show, NBC has announced. Production is set to start this month with comedian and radio personality Adam Carolla, Eric Stromer and Tanner Foust at the helm. BBC America is producing the program for the U.S. An on-air date was not yet released. http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/1....image.500.jpg NBC Entertainment executive Craig Plestis calls Top Gear "a proven winner worldwide" and says the trio of hosts is "a perfect match of humor, insider know-how and priceless track experience." The hosts will be shown on road trips, test-drives and stunt events involving "the world's most amazing cars," BBC America says. The BBC2 program Top Gear has been on the air since 1977 and is digitally available in 100 countries. Carolla is currently host of the Los Angeles-based syndicated radio show The Adam Carolla Show on KLSX-FM. He has also been on Comedy Central and MTV programs including The Man Show and Loveline and bills himself as a car collector with possessions including an Audi S4 and "several" Lamborghinis. Foust is a stunt driver who has appeared in The Dukes of Hazzard, The Bourne Ultimatum, and other action films and who was the 2007 X Games Rally champion and the 2007 Formula Drift Pro Drift champion. He was the host of the program SuperCars Exposed on the Speed cable channel and says "a tricked-out [BMW] M3" is his personal "car of choice." Stromer's car credentials are murkier. He hosted the HGTV channel's Over Your Head program and appears on the Clean Sweep program on TLC and has a background in construction. His preferred ride is a Toyota Camry Hybrid, he says. What this means to you: The sun may never again set on the Top Gear empire. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent |
Oh lord! There goes the neighbor hood.

Eh, I guess it's an okay setup...I'm rather skeptical of the carpenter guy - then again, Adam Corolla is also a former carpenter. I guess it just all all depends on how well they work together.
|
its gonna suck, i watch top gear for the funny british men XD
|
^ exactly, but on a brighter note, new top gear this sunday!
|
hmm not sure ill enjoy it as much as i like the Europe version. but i guess i shall s ee. i have a feeling that there will be alot of nascar drivers on this show :( (no offense to nascar fans. )
|
i hate nascar......

Foust is a stunt driver who has appeared in The Dukes of Hazzard, The Bourne Ultimatum, and other action films and who was the 2007 X Games Rally champion and the 2007 Formula Drift Pro Drift champion. He was the host of the program SuperCars Exposed on the Speed cable channel and says "a tricked-out [BMW] M3" is his personal "car of choice." Actually the first two seem like they could work, though they couldn't ever replicate Clarkson's following I don't think. |
It definitally won't be as good as the origional, but it will be interesting to watch.
|
ughh this show is gonna suck. are they even car enthusiasts??? atleast on the brit show they seem to know what they are talking about and actually get into the cars and whip em around. They have great personalities and great chemistry together on stage. I love that dry british witt too.
Im guessing the american show will be heavily saturated with commercial sponsorhip by coca-colla and rock n roll music and personal gratification leaving only 10% of the show to the cars...once they review the next hot SUV Im Out........ |
Does anyone else think this new show will take the old one off-air in the U.S.?
|
I still think the Brits will be better hosts.
But Corolla is a good host for just about anything. And Foust is a great driver. The real question though. . . . . . . Who is gonna be "the Stig"? |
Hell, maybe if they're feeling a little squirelly they'll put Denise Miller in there too.
|
When and where do they give this show ? I've only seen it thru the internet.

The BBC is public television in the UK, so no commercials there. A full 60 minute show. |
give it a chance. jesus.
|
They're also airing the show on BBC America, watch for it there.
|
Missed opportunity. They should have gotten someone like Jay Leno and Seinfeld to host it, that would have been badass

I'm wondering where they will film it (crossing fingers for VIR). I will give it a shot, I mean there are many british shows that were successfully made into American shows. Let's wait and see. As for the drivers skills, I would hardly call all three of the british hosts professionals, good...maybe even "what we would expect" at best. The stig is the professional. We know nothing about the skills of Adam Corolla and Stromer; Foust has some serious skill as a driver and for all we know...He could be "The Stig". I'm keeping expectations low as to not be disappointed. |

The chemistry and intellect of the BBC presenters is what makes that show worthwhile.
Without Clarkson, Hammond and Mays, that show would be rubbish. |
Don't expect it to be the same show. It may not be as good, but its bound to be a lot better than anything we have now...AMERICAN MUSCLE...HOT ROD TV...4x4 EXTREME...etc...etc. Oh yeah...Car and Driver TV. I love the magazine, but I couldn't imagine a more bland and boring put me to sleep show. Complete snoozer.
I just want something that is funny and informative (even if just a bit) and NOT American idol, survivor, reality dancing with the f'n stars series BS CRAP. I hate those shows and want to gouge my eyes out when they are on. /end rant Also, Top Gear is the closest my gf has ever been to enjoying cars and driving. So it has the power to potentially hold non car enthusiasts attention. |

Jay Leno and Seinfeld are both too famous. Much of the content would be overshadowed by "OMG its (insert celebrity here)". Focus needs to be on the cars and the technology.
