Yes, one, can get more if you want...

Thanks Ash, looks good but I think for that small of a car the 5 door just seems more proportionate, thanks,,,

I like the 3DR as well. Wonder if we'll get a funky-looking 4DR.

USA specs are out:

http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/musa...2010_specs.pdf

There is one major disappointment in there:

Fuel economy (manual): 28/35

I don't get it. The 2l Mazda 3 is rated at 25/33. The UK combined imperial mpg rating for the 2 and 3 (with the same engines) is 50 and 37, respectively. The slightly heavier Fiesta gets 40 mpg with a 1.6 l engine. So why doesn't the US Mazda 2 get 40+ highway?

A dealbreaker if it's true.

The price is also higher than I expected. Doable for my wife, but it's high enough that price-wise it will be cross-shopped with cars another tier size up.

^^^ yeah the price is what is going to keep me from getting the first model yr model. Its even in the price range of the 3 which is alot more car.

well on the fiesta

Optional six-speed automatic (non-SFE pkg.) Projected 30* city/ 38* highway/ combined 33* Projected 30* city/ 38* highway/ combined 33*

Optional six-speed automatic w/optional SFE package Projected 30* city/ 40* highway/ combined 34* Projected 30* city/ 40* highway/ combined 34*
the dont have the actual EPA numbers yet. the Fiesta is using a 6spd MY or AT while the Mazda2 is using a 5spd MT or 4AT. Also note the projected 40 highway Fiesta is with the SFE(super fuel economy) package which uses a different rear dif and lower rolling resistant tires.

Ford will Advertise that higher number to death with small print explaining its only with the SFE paackage and in the meantime will sell mostly the lower price lower mpg spec cars.

But having said all that- Mazda needs that new 6speed in this 2 like yesterday. they need a higher number they can advertise.

Starting at 14,730 doesnt seem high really. a Mazda 3 sedan starts at 16,500 or so. Honda Fit starts at 14,900. a Mini starts over 18,000.

I still want info on the MS2 :)

Mainly if it will come in automatic (bleh :( ) My wife can't drive MT any more, clutch causes her hip problems, but if the MS2 is available as an automatic, that is the one we are going for.

The Fiesta manual is a 5 speed, with 29/38 estimated mpg. I expected the Mazda 2 to do a little better than that.

Of course there will be an automatic. After all, this is America.

http://www.greencarreports.com/blog/...riced-at-13980

At the 2010 New York Auto Show today, Mazda announced that its 2011 Mazda2 subcompact would carry a low starting price of $13,980 when it arrives at dealers.
and i just noticed that the 2s mpg is also still estimated and without the actual EPA number yet.

but that 4speed is seriously holding them back. they need a better auto in there.

zoom44 04-04-2010 12:32 PM

several articles now saying the sky -g and new sky drive tranny will debut in 2011 in the Mazda 2. so add 15%- 20% on top of those MPG numbers once the new drivetrain hits next year :)
