I take it you're in the Milwaukee area... God forbid there's another highway 100 where a bunch of idiot ricers meet up. The sad thing is I have to go there every now and then on a Sat. to pick up stuff for my aquariums, go to Home Depot, etc. I'm not sure what scares me more, all the cops or all the ricers.

 

Again, boring details... But it's very rare for anyone to do a header on a STI or WRX. It's a huge pain in the *** and the gains are minimal. Also, we're taking about a regular older WRX, I/H/E would probably get him a little over 200whp if he was lucky.

Lastly, a Coob stage 2 STI is going to make in the area of 40-50 extra WHP depending on the car, dyno, and if it's catless or not. A far cry from 400whp... It would be like you saying your stock RX-8 makes 320whp.

 

Tell me about it... I got a 17 year old friend with a slow and craptastic Infiniti I30 (not a 3.5, the old 3.0 Maxima equivalent car). He says he can rape Evos, "WRX with STi package", G35 coupes, GS430, etc etc etc. THe list goes on and on. EVery other day he tells me a new story of how badly he rape so and so. He got a craptastic egay muffler, Nos stickers, AEM stickers, egay cone filter, neon lights, and some other random ricer crap. He honestly believes his egay muffler and cone filter gives him 15 horsepower each.

Every time I talk about cars and start to get a little specific (piggyback, injector sizes, fuel pump upgrades, or simple things like a downpipe), he pretends to know what i'm talking about. He probably gets jealous at some point and talks about electric superchargers on ebay (no joke) and how they will give him 15HP. Then he goes back to his ricer appearance crap like "supercharger holes". I guess he's talking about port holes from Buicks and such.

He's not the only kid I know with such a messed up mind. Most if not all the kids I know that are interested in cars are just like that. I blame Fast and Furious and jealousy.

I have an LS9 in my 8. I didn't do an engine swap though. It's a special Mazda / Chevy anniversary edition, cuz you know Mazda and Chevy are tight after the whole Rotary Corvette thing... Who do you think did the suspension for the RX-8? The same guys who did the Corvette! Hell, it's the same kind of suspension! You know the Z06 uses struts, right?

OMG, if it was white with gold badges he was here this Sunday when he raced me (or he thought he was) out of a dual left turn lane LOL (I was on the outside to turn right to enter the highway, he was on the inside) only to gun his junk and swerve in front of me across 3 lanes (probably after he saw me laughing) when I somewhat matched his speed to immediately slam on his brakes and turn right on the first turn after the light we were pulling away from. My turn was some 300 feet further down the street but I had to come to an abrupt complete stop. There was absolutely no cars behind me and I don't think I was even accelerating that hard. Why do people consistently get on the inside of left turn lanes when they know they are going to have to get over to make a right turn? Just a small example of the idiot drivers here (probably everywhere) that seem to totally change their driving style when in the presence of any type of performance-oriented car. That's my rant.

there are kids in my auto class that think they know everything. trust me...i hear this **** all day. "my truck will would our cars ***" and all kinds of variations of this. put them in their place and spot their mistakes, it will make them feel stupid. There is this kid named alan in my auto class who is dead set determined that his dads Mercedes SUV can easily go 140 and beat almost any car on the street or track. its a ******* idiot, it drives me crazy

I see it here as well. Some young nut swinger with his friend in a yellow Honda s2000, obviously modded, lowered, with flat black OZ rims, monster fart can, racing seats, etc rolls by me. He looks over at the GTO, looks at his friend, and does the "jerking off" hand thing, laughing at me.

God does his thing and we get stopped at a loooong light. I'll save you all the details of the conversation, but it started off with me asking "Is it fast?" This absolutely infuriated the little 'roid boy. I asked him about what mods he had, saying "I don't hear a supercharger or turbocharger, so you must be N/A". Some way or another, he couldn't get it through his thick skull that if he choses to play to my advantage and go against me straight line, he is going to get his *** handed to him if he isn't boosted (I do know there are some evil fast FI S2K's out there). He's pissed and almost screams at me "IT'S GOT A FULLY BUILT SPOON RACING ENGINE DUDE!"

I'll end my little story with two words. "Bus lengths"

Point is, even the tuner guys that spend piles of cash on their cars are stupid, and live in another world.

 

That's kind of a whole other discussion. There are plenty of fanbois out there that don't realize the limitations of their car and what other cars are capable of. Just because you have a bunch of money to dump into a car doesn't mean you have any sense or know what you're doing. It's as if some of these guys refuse to admit to themselves that there are cars on the road faster than theirs. There's a guy at the local RC track we go to with a stock C4 Vette that keeps taking jabs at my father and I about racing and how he could take us. I told him that we could meet up at the local strip and if he beats my father or I the money is his. That shut him up for a week and then he's right back at it the next week about how he doesn't like tuner cars and how he beats them all the time... The guy has no clue what an Evo is capable of and the same goes for my dad's SRT-8. He's just stuck in his sad little Corvette is king of all cars world. Sadly, this inflicts a lot of domestic owners. Luckily not all, there's a '98 Cobra owner at the track that has told him how badly he would get his *** beat several times.

I see what you mean; it is different. When I read your opening post, that story came to mind, because as much as I spoke to this "tuner crowd kind of guy", he couldn't get it. But, I think the root cause is ignorance. The tuner crazed 20 somethings don't have an excuse to be ignorant because they must be on the internet.

Question, Ike, in the crowd you're talking about, how much is bragging and lying versus pure ignorance.

I'd say nearly all of it is lying and bragging at the root of the story. Then the ignorant take those lies and recycle the stories their friends told them while making up some of their own along the way. For the guys in the pickup trucks, Scions, Civics, Avengers, and V6 Mustangs/Firebirds that seem to think they have a chance in hell when they pull up next to me and try to get me to race, I'd say it's delusions of grandeur more often than simple ignorance.
