Trading for SUV...
Well, I was recently accepted to the University of Eastern Kentucky as a transfer student into the pre-OT track. With that being said...I've never had to drive 12 hours to get home before..yet alone with luggage and dogs and such. So the decision was, trade in the 8 for an SUV. I'm pretty set on either an FX45 or the CX-7. I REALLY love the black cherry cx-7---but buying the 8 it's first year out, and all the problems i had with it..makes me nervous!
I've already searched and read some stuff--but does anyone know of massive problems with it yet? any suggestions and such would be great!

You should get a wagon instead. Some of them get pretty good fuel economy, can be fun to drive, and have almost as much space as a big SUV. S4 and Legacy are the two I'd check out, bother very good cars. You can get good lease deals on a loaded S4 wagon for under 450 a month. I also think there are siome incentives on the Legacy right now, but sadly the no longer offer manual for the new MY. If you want manual you'd have to get a slightly used one.

Driving an wagon would be better than a SUV, if you can stand the look of the legacy, its a pretty good car. If you go for the turbo-flat-4 its even better.

Power!!
Mazda3 hatchback. It's a mini wagon that gets great gas mileage. a 12 hour drive would be a lot cheaper at 30mpg than 15. Plus If you plan on putting lots of miles on a car you would get crushed in a lease. When you fold the back seats down you have a ton of room for the dog and all your stuff. The 3 would be a pretty cheap purchase next to an SUV or full on station wagon.

No really I would go with the Saab 9-3 SportCombi or at least look at it if your considering an s4 or legacy.

I don't want a wagon...But i'm looking at the Black Cherry CX-7. We'll see..they have one at the dealership here, so when I go on friday to bring the 8 in for recall crap, I'll check it out

CX-7's are nice. Infiniti FX45 is nicer. Sorry CX-7 guys...
Although, the FX45 is not as much nicer as its price would suggest.
I like the wagon idea if you're making alot of long trips. Trust me...12-15 mpg is not fun...oh wait you drive an RX-8...

I agree with the sentiments here... you're better off going with a wagon/hatchback over a SUV. Better gas mileage, better handling and similar space. Plus most SUV only come in AT (ewww!).

S4
Legacy (last only because for MY07 there are no MT GT models)
... or if you want to stay with Mazda, Mazda6 wagon.

Buy a used BMW 5-series wagon.......drive it until you graduate and you'll be able to sell it in a few years without losing much on the resale. Plus the BMW 5-series is much nicer than a Mazda or Infinity.

You can even find a few that have manual trannies in them
