So, I went to the Saturn dealer today and they are so booked solid for Sky's that there is no chance to even sit in one untill late next month or the month after that.

After that I went to my Pontiac dealer. They had a Solstice and all, but I really don't like the styling or interior. Also, being 6 foot 4, it is no fun with the roof up. I knew this might happen and I was prepared to have to live with my RX-8 for a few more years. However, they had a 2006 six speed GTO. Black exterior with red interior. Freaking gorgeous color combo. Took it for a test drive and oh my god I could not stop shaking or smiling after wards.

Now because my father has GMS Family planning, we could get a brand new GTO for 28k plus tax title and all that. I am going to try and get my dad to at least take a look at it. I am offering to pay whatever my dad wants. He can have all my money (a whopping 3k) for the car if he wants. After driving that car, I can't see myself not trying to buy it.

I have to do a MASSIVE sales pitch to my dad to consider it. I hate to do it because after all he bought me a hell of a nice car and I don't want to sound spoiled or a little bitch and all. However, the bottom line is if I can fix my mistake and get a car that I will be beyond happy with, why not do it?

Nah... there's an easier way. Just get one from Mallet... and it's an LS2, not an LS1... more power baby!

Ain't no replacement for displacement, baby!

How was the seating postion? How was the outward visibility? It wasn't like the last gen Camaro, was it?

the GTO is a very nice car for what it is, even *I'm* tempted to find one for a test drive, and i'm a self-claimed hardcore rotorhead lol...

I can't stop thinking about the GTO. Every second that I was in it, was pure heaven. It was everything I wanted out of a car. The seats are amazing and the leather is so comfortable that you feel like you are gliding. The engine just boggled my mind. No matter what gear I threw it in, the engine had more and more power. Power everywhere. Power was coming out of my nose.

The seating position was perfect. The only problem is that the seats are power only and they move kinda slow, but that doesn't really matter. The interior had ZERO rattles or shakes. The car is very solid and gives you a commanding feeling. I never drove the last gen Camaro, but I can assure you that this is the best car GM has ever built for under 35k.

There is zero doubt in my mind that I HAVE to own this car. I can't image letting it slip away and never being able to buy it again. The 2006 is the last year of production out of Holden. The test drive sold this car. After that, there was no need to talk.

I test drove one of those babies myself, and the price was insanely right. I just couldn't imagine parting with my S2000 for this car, even with all that power. It was something else. I drove the auto, and altough it was a bit boring not having to shift, that baby can run low 13s in it's sleep with your average driver, so it's awfully tough to beat in any kind of race. Just not enough for me though to consider it as a daily, or a fun car. If there was room for a third car, and I could afford it, I'd be all over one of them, just for the power itself.

The great thing to me, was that it did not feel heavy at all. I know it weighs 3700 pounds, but it felt like a 3000 pound car due to all that power and refinment in the suspension or steering or something. It just all comes together so damn smoothly.

Without question ditch the automatic RX-8. The GTO will not let you down.

Better yet, with the 6 speed you won't lose any MPG, and gain twice as much hp, and 2.5 times more torque. Who cares about the weight. I think you found your car.

i dont think i would find myself smiling walking up to a GTO in a parking lot everyday, but for sure once i got inside i would. i LOVE the car's interior, and the power is off the chain. if i wasnt such a sucker for interesting and beautiful exteriors, i would definitely consider the GTO. i think id have to weigh the power vs handling thing also.

Just in case daddy wants to buy you a different color combo. https://www.rx8club.com/lounge-4/so-95053/

Regardless of your intent, you sound like a spoiled teenager. First you want the Sky Redline, then the GTO. You just want out of the RX8. I guess it's a lot easier to be impulsive with someone else's money.

$3K. That's gas money. Wait, you don't pay for gas, do you?

I don't mean to sound harsh but damn, be happy with what you have until you can afford something else.

My current RX-8 has been a ton of fun. I just wish I was not a dumbshit when I bought it and got the six speed instead of my current 4sp auto. Please don't say that I am an idiot for getting the auto. It is a great car, but at the same time I am looking for a stick shift after I have been infected with learning how to drive manual. I can't stop thinking about shifting. Mind you, this was only after learning on my friends 5 speed 1983 Chevy Blazer peice of crap.

I do not need more than a two seater as I am only going to be a college student. Also, a convertible sounds pretty awesome due to living in Southern California and going to school in Classy San Diego. Trunk space does not really matter either because, well, I own nothing to lug around except a computer and books...

I realize the Redline does not come out for a few more months, but I don't really want the current weak engine. Granted my 8 now only has 197hp and a gerbel for torque. 260hp and 260tq in a five speed stick with the top down going down PCH in a little car like that really sounds great.

My Rx-8 is equiped as follows:

2004 Automatic 4 Speed
Touring Package
Appearance Package
Bose Speakers
Navigation System
Chrome 18in Stock Wheels
Sun Roof

I will be getting a Redline with basically ever option there is. I built a normal Sky on the Saturn website and it comes to about 27k. Add a few K for the Redline and its about 30k. Now the good news: My father is part of the GM family so he could get me 16% off MSRP along with whatever deals they get. Not sure exactly on all the details.

Now, I really really really just want a manual transmission car! If any of you know of a car (That is NEW not used) that can be had for around 27k feel free to post it up. I don't really want to look at another RX-8 because the only way to do that would be to sacrfice all those extra options I have. Another solution that I have been kicking around (albeit very hypothetically) is to get a non-redline version and in a year or two, drop an LS1 into it. I know that sounds great, but it may cost too much money and the whole warrenty issue. Keep in mind this will be my daily driver and ONLY car.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I don't know if anyone else told you yet or not, but the Sky is not offered at the GM discount. Yes, I am talking about the real discount to real GM employees.

That said, you should try my solution. I own a 2006 RX8 and a 2007 Sky. When I want to haul something, I just drive my 2002 4Runner. The RX8 can be an only car, as can the 4Runner. The Sky just isn't made for it. As far as the Redline coming out in a few months, if you are planning on getting one then, you had better already be on the waiting list. The dealers in my area are taking Redline orders for spring delivery now. All of the earlier deliveries are already taken. Dealers only get so many per month.

Oops - ignore my last post, I just read this one. What I should have said was this: Grow a set of *****, become a man, and buy your own car. Daddy already bought you a damn nice car, appreciate it, thank him for his generosity, and never ask him for anything (other than advice) ever again.

Ok Ok. Don't be hating on the spoiled/high priveleged teenagers here. They are all over the internet on every enthusiast forum, and they act like spoiled teenagers because, well they are. Whatever mom and pops say you can have, get it man. If they let you swap cars because you want something faster, then why the hell turn that down. You might want to hide it a bit better to avoid comments like above though. Just some future advice. I know any of us would if we had a chance at your age to even drive an auto RX8, let alone be able to swap cars this soon, so you're bound to encounter some hidden jealousy here and there. Just be safe,

Used GTO prices are competitive just like the RX-8. The big thing that kept me from considering the car was lack of available side airbags.

its hard to read everythign but thank god some of you mentioned s2000

when you mentioned 27-30k for the saturn i thought i was going to flip .. for that money i wouldnt even remotely consider a saturn ... if you have that kind of money then buy yourself the proper convertible which is the s2000

the sporty saturn is worth about 22k to me and thats gonna be its resale within a year .. just keep that in mind .. even at that i personally would be hesitant to throw my money away at a gm car

Exactly, the gas milage is even better if I manage to contain the urge to jet it every now and then.

Thank you for being brutally honest. I realize that I may seem to be asking a lot. However, I am going to be paying the difference between the two cars. If when everything is said and done at the end of 36 months when the GTO is paid off and it cost 6k more than the RX-8 would have then I owe my father $6,000 dollars.

NOTHING MORE IS COMING OUT OF MY DADS POCKET IN THE LONG RUN. I am going to be paying him every month and I do pay for gas. I have a part time job right now that I will be able to keep during college. I thank you for caring and worrying that I am being a spoiled little kid. However, anyone who knows me would be able to tell you that that is not who I am.

I think the exterior is perfect. It has really grown on me. I think the RX-8 looks great, but I am getting a little tired of its over-aggressive styling. That is just me obviously, to each there own. The GTO can be made to look even nicer with the SAP package if I choose to put any money into it.

K, I'm going to the dealer now, I will do another update when I get back. Wish me luck!

Well, believe me, more is coming out of your dad's pocket then you realize or want to admit, unless you reimburse him for car insurance, and pay him off as you would a bank loan, with no leniency. Either that or the car is in his name, and he's just listing you as an occasional driver or something. Basically it's pay as you go, it's not like taking a loan from a bank, and that in the end costs your dad money. The insurance for a kid your age driving a 400hp car is gonna be higher then an automatic RX8. I hope you and your Dad don't take too big of a hit on trade in. Good luck!!
