Every one who has seen Top Gear has seen the Stig but who is he? well there have been 2. the first was Perry McCarthy in seasons 1-3 ( http://www.jla.co.uk/ArtistsIndex/Ar...y1.asp?Letter= ). But who is the second. It is rumored that the new white stig is Ben Collins ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stig ). Rumours that The Stig was former F1 driver Damon Hill were confounded when Hill appeared on Top Gear on June 26, 2005 and stated that he was not The Stig. However if you watch the July 31, 2005 episode, F1 driver Mark Webber is on he recieves a tshirt that says "i am the stig" then jeremy quickly states "dont let Michael (Schumacher) see that". then Mark says "yeah michael will be jealous of this". Jeremy then says "well Michael doesnt always wear red if you know what im saying". "people have been wondering why he has been off form a bit this year. Hes been spending a bit too much time here; I will say no more then that" So could The white stig be Michael Schumacher?

 

Interesting stuff. Though, I doubt that Schumi would be the stig, he just seems too pompous to be doing some driving for a "lowly" tv show.

 

If Schumacher is the Stig then I'm Alain Prost.

In an episode this past season they had an F1 driver on and Jeremy commented that his breath smelled of magnesium. It seemed they were blatantly hinting that he was the stig, although i'm too lazy to look it up and see who it actually was.

I'm sure you can get it at any sporting goods store. If you are willing to spend the money, you can even have them embroider it onto a shirt of your choice instead of getting the hot, press-on type. You can also get it off Ebay, but they charge too much and the styles are limiting.

 

The shirts on ebay are not the real shirts from top gear. i want one of te real ones. Anyway who could the stig really be? I know schumacher is a big time guy but i guess he could be the stig, probably not, but he could be. If not him then who?

Here is something that confuses me about the stig, he HAS to be an current/former F1 driver or have A LOT of road racing experience and be very well trusted, not only does he turn quick laps, he drove the Renault F1 car, I think last seasons (2004) car, so you would think maby he has a connection with the team. I dunno why they would let Mark Webber, or Shumi, or any other current F1 driver take the wheel of the Renault F1 car.

That whole theory goes out the window though, cause they could have just had one of the Renault test drivers dress up as the stig, for that video.

I was just thinking about this on the way to work today. Maby there are multiple stigs?

^i think the multiple stig theory is very sound, that's the whole point of making the stig unknown, so they can just grab whoever's available and put him up there as stig :D

 

It would make the most sense to me, although its kinda a let down, cause the Lap Times cant be compared as close....since some would be with differnt drivers. Also why the switch from white to black, i guess to pay homage to the first (black) stig (Perry McCarthy) and then make a new stig (white) that could be 1 or multiple drivers. I think that they have a group of a few drivers that they use, and can substitue in other for special occasions, such as when they drove the F1 car, or the Aston Martin DB9R, they could use one of that teams drivers.

Its just an idea. I wonder when they celebritys are getting coached but the stig for their 'star in a resonably priced car' lap....is the stig in his full getup, helmet and all? or is he just in regular peoples clothes.

I also wouldnt be suprised if the stig is, or at least some of the time is, Tiff from Fifth Gear...... I know him and clarkson arnt the best of friends, and have competing shows, but they both work for BBC, and we all know Tiff can drive!

Unless there is something in Tiff's contract that keeps him from driving on Top Gear, he could do it...even more reason to keep the sitgs identity hidden.

With all that said, its just brain storming, I do think that there are multiple stigs and I dont think any of them is anyone THAT famous, certainly not Shumi or Button or Coultard (sp).....IMO

 

my guess is for special cars like the F1 and DBR9 i htink they used drivers form that team and dressed them like the stig. I still think there is a main stig. There maybe multiple for occasions but my guess is that there is 1 main stig.
