The only thing missing from last nights broadcast, that I noticed, was a discussion of the latest news. Thats OK, it would have been 6 months old anyway. Wasn't Hammond's crash of the jet car the first of this series?
Edit:
I just checked the BBC website, we are seeing Series 8 shows. The crash was in Series 9.

US broadcast schedule…
For the full schedule, just go to the BBC America website (not the same as the BBC website): http://www.bbcamerica.com/tvschedule.jsp?showsList=266
A new episode airs every Monday night, and is repeated a few times.

They were already in the process of dumbing down Top Gear when they first started showing it.
They would clip the segments to drop a lot of the background discussion; cut out the news,
other "filler" parts and the britishisms. And even made them refilm parts to avoid confusing
viewers with terms like "petrol" and "brake-horsepower".
The sad thing is once I realized how good the show was (and when they abruptly
stopped showing episodes in the US), I also started downloading the back episodes, and
actually enjoy the "real thing" over its watered down Discovery Channel version. Even the
almost consistent bashing of the US Automakers is worthwhile, because they do such a
good job of explaining why (many) US autos are so far behind the rest of the world.
I get the feeling this new version will concentrate on having a lot more cars from Ford, GM, Chysler etc...
to showcase. And looking at the picture on that site, I'm not sure I'd trust those guys to recommend
a skateboard, much less a supercar.

No, it's the regular guys, Clarkson and crew. It appears to be the whole show—each episode is an hour long. I read about the idea of doing an "American" version a while back—but this isn't it. This is the real McCoy. Though yeah, there's no "news" segment, and apparently the episodes are a year behind what's running in England. But everything's very British, including the humor, pounds not dollars, British slang, and local references (there was a segment on the boys hosting a local radio show that most certainly would not have been left in if segments were being removed for "American" audiences). And most of the cars were European models not available here.

Well I got to watch the 9pm show not the 8pm one but still I got to watch it. I was laughing my *** off at Clarksons jokes. I didnt realize how much I missed that show.
The GF at first didnt want to watch it at all but I pulled out a trump card statement of "Well come on.. I watch all of your medical type shows all the time with no fuss..." she was about to retort back but bit her tongue. I believe she realized my statement had alot of truth since it was only a hour show and me tossing in a few "Its a one hour show it wont kill you.".
I just gotta find out if my own Cable carries BBC America hehe.

Isn't this just Season 8 of the British show?

Edit:
Also, it appears that if there is a new "Top Gear America" show, it won't have Clarkson.
