Question Tokyo Motor Show /RX-9?????

This year the TMS starts Oct 24th, have we heard any news of the RX-9 being present there? Besides rumors from various articles that say it will be there , the TMS website shows Mazda will show 19 vehicles , 1 Japanese Premiere model, could this be the RX-9?

It also says it will show 4 unit cut aways of car bodies, motors , etc. 2 World premiere cut aways of the same mentioned above.

Direct Link:http://www.tokyo-motorshow.com/en/bo...bits_list.html

I hope Mazda shows us something rotary related.

No Way. the japanese premiere is Kiyora prototype, shown first at Paris last year...and never in Japan.

this is a disappointing TMS for Mazda . zero new cars/concept presented. good for new piston engines ,but...no new cars is sad.

crisis bites.....

I gave up on Mazda, they are like PD. They let you know , when they announce something. I must say, mazda is really good at keeping everything they do a secret.

Are you guys serious, no new info on 16x or the new RX-9? You would think Mazda would want to represent in there own backyard. Maybe at the NYAS Mazda will have something available to show us.

i bet on NAIAS.

maybe a more "near- production protoype" than taiki

US is the biggest market for rotary mazda IMHO.

About 75% of the first gen RX-7 went to the US. If it's a simple, affordable, rotary sports coupe it'll sell here.

And the 3rd gen ended in 1995 here. Yet 7 years long in japan, ending in 2002.

I'm just hoping for SOMETHING new to look at this year for the LA show.
Last year we didn't even get the 16x engine display.

here in EU numbers are very poor (traditonally..rx8 is the best selled rotary car here in EU). USA/CAN is largest market IMO.

i'm searching numbers.

I see, yah i dont know anything about EU. but my experience with jpn, it seems to do pretty well. it's not rare to see one on the roads. but here in SE texas ( land of the trucks and stangs )its rare.

the problem here is the gas mileage.

no good also the service.....techs simply don't know the engine....

best sales % (for EU) in Germany and mainly UK..... UK is receptive, rx-8 it's well known and respected.

info, news and test (see motortrend test) here (excluding japan) comes from US

australia it0s also a good place for rotaries (true, Ashley?)

In the FD's defense, one of the larger reasons it failed to sell for a good price here was the Yen going down the ******* at the time. Although the heating issues with the twin turbo setup might have helped it

I'm still curious to see how much more the US will buy a Rotary than the Japanese would. I always thought Japan had the higher Rotary numbers.

I don't think so... they had huge discounts on FD's when new. Even if there was a more favorable exchange rate, the FD was simply too ambitious, expensive, and not reliable enough for what people were willing to accept from a Mazda.

Guys just to let you know I researched some more to try and get some info on this, and Mazda directly stated to a media outlet (sorry I forget which one this was earlier at school and i was bored) that the new rx7/rx9/whatever will not be launched at this year's tokyo show. THey are focusing on this new concept which is doing a world premier, its a small car that gets 75mpg and they're hyping it a lot, no rotary sports car though. They are also showcasing A car that has the 16x in it, but they are basically just using it to talk about the engine a little bit but the car is not a sports car at all, it's just some design concept.

There clearly IS some rx-something sports car, most likely will be the next gen rx7 and actually called that, but it won't be released at this month's tokyo show, sorry.

I visited Tokyo in 2007, there were plenty of RX-8s and FDs even in the busy parts of town. I was a bit surprised considering how expensive gasoline is over there. They probably stood out more from all the millions of bland cars though.
