Thoughts: SLK320

WHat are your thoughts on the Mercedes SLK320?
I'm thinking of getting a 2001-2002.

Any experience with them? good/bad/neutral??

Thanks

As long as it's the 320 model you're okay.
Performance is reasonable, typical Merc quality and appointments.
You really can't lose on this one.

The only real drawback is that it is a "little bit cosy" (i.e cramped) but comparable to an S2K in this respect.

Whatever you do, don't go for any of the other lower end models unless you want a hairdresser's car and simply want the pose value.....they're a little bit gutless.

Just my $0.02.

cardomain.com has lots of SLK moded pix, u might want to check it out, they are pretty cool.

btw, if i have the same amount of money, i would go for a S2000, it cost like under 20k for a second hand one.

I've a 2001 SLK320 p Magma Red - bought it new in early 2001. No mechanical issues of note in 24000 miles. Only back to dealer twice for oil changes - and a couple of repairs - cupholder / leak in window. No recalls to date. Has 4 year / 50000 mile warranty in USA - all maintance included. Has FSI - flexible service interval about 10000 miles.

The V6 is much better than the turbo 4 - a friend has that model. Able to cruise at up to 80 - 100 mph with some reserve - with top down. Have a plexiglass windscreen - aftermarket.

Able to go topless at 40F - if you get the heated seats. they have two setting - hot and HOTTTT !!!.

The SLK320 had a package - K I think that had Xenon headlights and heated seats - plus a couple of other things. Has a Bose system - with good bass - unlike the RX-8. Put a 6 CD changer in trunk - cassette in dash.

Roof is great - slower opening and closing than 2005 SLK or 2004 SL - just able to lower at a long light.

Nice roadster - with a Mercedes logo.

John

My partner has owned both a 1998 SLK230 and a 2002 SLK32 AMG. The 230 was underpowered. The 32 was a screamer (as you would expect, with 349hp!). If you're taller than 5'10" or thereabouts, I wouldn't recommend it. I'm 6'1", and I was never, ever comfortable in either of those cars!

Thanks for the comments. I am looking only to get a 320, the SLK32 AMG would be ideal but $$$.

As for the S2000 I agree but I drove one for about 3 hours one day and it was very uncomfortable, very loud even with the optional hardtop and very rough riding. The SLK was neither of these in the 320 version plus it has a LOT more equipment.
