Got to sit in one this past weekend at the autoshow as well. Interior is much improved over the 350z and unlike Rotarygod I think it’s one of the best looking cars on the road today and definitely in its price range, fantastic actually. Can’t believe you mentioned Aztek and a 370z in the same sentence. 330hp, 3,300lbs for $30k, what’s not to like other than hoping it was 3,000lbs.

I tried my friend's G37 and it is really nice. He had a S version so the suspension was very harsh but it wasn't troublesome. The torque was a different from my RX-8 but it felt smooth in the powerband and the braking was phenomenal. Trust me, I pushed it since my RX-8 has been garaged for 4 months and I haven't driven a manual vehicle in that time period. Man it was like a chocolate cake to a fatty.

id still take a 335i over it for the utility and tuning potential, but nice write up. I still have not seen one in person yet.

The 370Z and 135i are very similar in performance figures as recent reviews have shown, they found them very hard to separate. The 370z did however out-edge in road grip due to wider tires however, but not trounced as you suggest. Also the ride quality was found to be better in 135i.

The 135I tests consistently 0-60 in 4.7. The 350Z was typicaly 4.8 a statistical tie. However if you look at the 0-100 (typically 11.5 for the 135I vs 12.8 for the 370Z) you will see the accelleration advantage to the 135I.

I love the new 370Z, I never cared much for the 350Z but its no 135I (although its a better bang for the buck and better if your dedicated track).

It's simple really. You don't understand sarcasm very well! I thought I made that clear. Guess not.

It actually isn't as ugly as the Aztek as almost nothing is. However it is not a gorgeous car by any stetch of the imagination on this planet or any other. The roof line sloping downwards before it gets to the drivers head, as in the 350Z actually makes it look a bit awkward to me. Terrible side profile as far as the roofline is concerned. The little fangs in the grille are also hideous. Not Aztek hideous but also not pretty enough for others to have to stare at as you drive by. They could be cut off and reshaped into something that actually looks nice without too much work. I've seen uglier though and it's really only those high school wanna be goth kid fangs that kill the front. Overall it isn't too bad. There are much nicer looking sports cars out there though. The Miata, RX-8, Sky, Solstice, Z4, S2000 to name a few. For me the only thing it's really got going for it is it's power. If it had 100 less horsepower there'd be no reason to buy it over a Miata or anything else for that matter. Conversely the RX-8 is worth it even with it's relatively tame power settings. More would only be gravy. It really is a Japanese car that seems designed to appeal to the simpler less refined tastes of the average American car buyer with just a hint of Japanese strangness thrown in for rice factor. But at least it's fast!

the little fangs in the grill are GREAT!! they arent fangs they're short wiskers. the front is clearly supposed to resemble a catfish mouth

in Japanese lore catfish are responsible for earthquakes. the symbology is significant . its in effect saying the ground trembles when the car drives by. great design. it shows the influence of nature in Japanese design much like Mazda has been experimenting with the forces of nature with its Nagare themes.

So sorry guys... just saw some concept stuff on the 370z roadster- gonna have to save every penny I can find- looks like, short of a mazda miracle, I'm gonna be a nissan owner. I really would like to have a rx8, but short of a 16x rotary, the fact that its a roadster and it's a Z together makes a really appealing offer. I'm not so keen on the 370z coupe styling, but the roadster looks Tight(according to me). Well, Mazda has about 20 months before I'll even be in the market- Com'mon Mazda!

Brillo, have you drive the Series II RX-8?, there are close to 60 Improvements done to the 8 in the new model.

Most are very subtle and address reliability/wear issues, but there have been upgrades to suspension and tires to name just a few.

You should compare what 8 you are use to driving, either the R3 (which is all new) or the GT version.

i want to test drive one of these. they show a lot of promise. i would have tweaked the styling a slightly different way, but im sure the lights would grow on me, or i would figure out a way to make them look less ugly

I still have yet to find one with a manual transmission. Every dealer I've been to only has an automatic. I think I might have one in my driveway by this summer as well...

1.) 0-100mph - 370Z- 11.8sec /135i- 11.8sec

2.) 0-140mph- 370Z- 25.9sec /135i- 27.9sec

so 370Z is 2 full seconds faster than 135i, which is a lot.

370Z is not the sports car it looks to be, that it's advertised to be. * IF * it could last (more than the current ~4 laps ~10 min) on a track before shutting down, it would be worth every penny. But it can't.

Being a powerful car, but with no stamina, equals an overpriced under-engineered street hooker. Maybe Nissan will fix it, maybe not. Until it does we can all challenge it at the track in our slow RX-8s - and win by several laps

You have a source for this? I haven't heard of this before. Being that it's winter where I live, track days aren't really an option right now.

Sure read this thread and note the latest Road and Track dustup between the 370Z and Porsche Cayman S...

"An observation we made over the week was the VQ's sensitivity to temperature. Engines prefer cool weather, but the VQ absolutely detests hot days. During the track day, we had to pit after about four laps in each session, the VQ winded by high oil temps and limited by its engine management to 6500 rpm."

...for a first person account ... "First track experience today ! Some good, some really bad " here..

I haven't driven a RX8 series II yet, so in fairness, it would be better to compare the Z to it, but even still, the Z has so much raw power compared to an 8, combine that with its handling, interior and exterior build quality and features such as the synro-rev its still an uphill battle for the 8 and other competitors.

I just read the R&T article on the 370z, that's interesting that the car overheads so easily, I hammered the car around pretty good and didn't notice high oil or coolant temps. That would be a serious issue for track rats, which might give the 8 an advantage in that environment as I know our cars can put up with some abuse.

I'm not trying to knock our car, I love my 8 and just spent 2 hours detailing it. Competition is a good thing, and I look forward to Mazda hopefully having the last laugh.
