TEENS: Dont speed or Mom will shut you down with her Cell Phone!

Mazda is on board a pilot program rolling out in the Atlanta area that is intended to save some teens from killing themselves and others .

A box goes in the vehicle and can be set to send Mommy and Daddy alerts when the vehicle goes over a certain speed or outside a set perimeter(no going to the next county to buy booze- buzz killer that one). Its also possible for the parents to send a command to disable the vehicle once the teen turns off the ignition.

this might be a good way to get your car recovered if its stolen as well.

That along with a Boost Mobile phone that shows you where other users are and kids won't be able to get away with anything anymore!

yeah, California is going towards no cell phones without hands free next year as well.
All this stuff should help these teens (aka our most inexperienced drivers) stay safe and not wrecking cars left and right.

This will be useless. What if you're in a residential area and you decide to drive highway speed limits...there won't be a notification sent to the parents but they'll still be speeding.
This won't prevent teens from taking turns too quickly or driving recklessly (ie weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, etc...)

tell the kid to stay on the surface streets and set the speed alert for 45mph

It's a nifty program. This could be at the mercy of the low quality cell phone coverage.

Just wait for ODB III (can you say OnStar). The police will be able to shut you down too.

I had an option to get this sort of tracking information with my car security system.

The best way to keep teens from driving like idiots is to remove their friends from the car and don't give them something like an 8. A nice honda accord with 90hp is plenty for a teen driver.

Bingo we have a Winnah! When my kids get to driving age they get some old underpowered but reliable car to drive regardless of what I could afford. And they will help pay for it. Teaches responsibility and value as well as curbing the teenage and older desires to punch it.

the #1 reason my little girl first car is going to be an accord.(she's 15 now)and she got skills with the texting but the promise is not to take or text calls while driving period!violate this rule and the car sits back in the side driveway untill it sinks in that her life is more important than a text message or phone call to chat with a buddy, friend whatever! i hopefully sure it will work because she love that car so much.
