Sprayguns\HVLP recommendations
Hey guys; I'm going to be painting some of my body (eherm, rx8) in the next few weeks and would like to know if anyone out there has some experience in paint guns/hvlp equipment, etc.
I'm currently looking at the Sharpe FX1000 1.2mm tip, just going to be spraying a base coat/clear coat. Not doing the whole car, just a panel here and there, mainly trunk, front bumper, side skirts.
Any experience?

you need to look at exactly what base/clear you will be spraying and look at the tech sheets as they will give you a recommended tip size.
as far as guns I would recommend DeVilbliss (cant beat em but pricey)
vapor guns are pretty good for their price (thats what I use but you will need to do some buffing/wet sanding as the finish wont be perfect.
Ultimately you get what you pay for and the more you spend on your guns the better result youll have. Just make sure you stay far away from siphon feed

as for paint I only use southern polyurethane for primer and clears. as for base coat I would recommend dupont.
You can get great results with any kind of paint if you go through all the right steps, I just only recommend these based on opinions of professionals/experts in the auto paint industry and personal experience (although very VERY limited)

If you're actually looking for a good gun, look at SATA guns. It's what my painter uses.
But honestly, having a good gun will not equal good finish.. you need to know what you're doing.
Do you have any experience with body work?
tip size will depend heavily on what paint you're laying down. Waterborne or solvent?
Please remember to use a flex additive to plastic panels.
Where are you getting your paint matched?

It is a urethane base/clear and it looks like the tip size should be about 1.4-1.5mm.
My car is a BB, the wing on my car was resprayed jet black and I can't tell the difference between the colors. Of course i'm going to be starting out small, i'm going to repaint the damaged fender and see how that holds up, and if all looks good i'll proceed to do the real thing. Luckily my buddy owns a good body shop and will be around to guide me and give me the tips and pointers. Guess I have to start somewhere; from what i've read the good brands to stick with as far as guns go is DeVilbiss, Sharpe, Sata, and Binks
