yea I'm curious as to what mods these cars have and what all the restrictions are. The only kinda racing I've ever seen on TV was F1 or nascar - never cars you'd see on the road.

well, they are running a full motec system for an engine management system, so I'm sure they are running 240.

I see some Porsches, 350Z's, Mustangs and some others? We race against them?

they are 2 seperate classes running at the same GT and ST. The rx-8 are ST IIRC. Same thing as JGTC with the GT300 and GT500 classes running at the same time, but 2 different races.

Watching the races is a good time, I always record em and watch. Its not too often that you can see stock bodied cars on a race track. Much easier to recognize a car then in trans am or lemans, hell F1 too.

I was watching this race from my brother-in-law's house. The RX-8 finished first in the ST class and IIRC a Porsche 998 won the GT class. A couple things that surprised me about this race were...

1.) all the freaking accidents!
2.) how well the new Mustangs handled
3.) how many and how well some of the FWD cars in the ST class did

Yeah, it was a slaughter on the track this race, I would have to say the best one was the Mustang running that Porsche off track and then the Porsche driver trying to get out of his car to start throwing blows at the Mustang guy, and then threatening the same driver with the bumper that was ripped off his Porsche. Just utter insanity.

The new Mustangs have changed my mind about the '05's as a whole. The white one with the blue racing stripes IMHO looks very sharp. Plus the Fiske wheels they have as well really set off the look of the whole car. The only thing with the Mustangs is that they are still heavy cars, which makes the brakes and the whole suspension package work much harder than in a Porsche, being rear engined and much lighter.

Also the Cobalts have had a fairly good run so far, I also was surprised at how well a SC'ed 4 pot has been running with our 8 and those bimmers

Where have you guys been? The #70 RX-8 won the grand am ST championship in 2004 and is leading again this year. Relatively speaking for a race car, it's not that far off from the stock RX-8.

I didnt watch Grand Am Cup all that much last year, this is really the first time that I've been excited about racing and actually take time out of my day to watch it, so yeah, I am a little bit behind.

I'm behind too. My cable TV company doesn't even offer SPEED channel so I rarely get to see this kind of stuff. It was awesome. The Porsche cars were impressive. BMW had an impressive showing as well. Not sure why the 350Z is in GT class and the RX-8 is in ST class though. What are the classifications based on?

Displacement as well as HP I believe since there is mention of a 20B RX-8 being in GT class. Allowable mods are also determined case by case unlike most SCCA racing.

There might be a 20b in the future, but nothing running in this series now. Also the 350 is in GT because of the more displacement of the engine, plus the fact that its a 2 seater with more available engine mods.
