Speed & Acceleration Fun Data

Not sure if it's a repost, but I came across this today and I found it entertaining to look through.

http://www.geocities.com/dtmcbride/m...eleration.html

It has some fun trivia footnotes embedded between the data tables.

List of "fast" cars (RX-8 is at the bottom of the list... below the Accord):

The last time I checked, the 0-60 on an 8 was 5.8 - 5.9 seconds unless they tested an auto rx8.

also his comment on dragsters not being able to get 8gs because F1 cars corner at no more than 5Gs and have 4 wheels is flawed. I guarantee you the contact patch on a top fuel dragster is larger than an F1s total contact patch.

I've never seen 5.8, but yeah, RX-8's 0-60 times range from about 5.9 to about 6.4. I think 6.1 and 6.2 are practical figures. I read that 5.9 is quite difficult to reproduce.

I agree with you that Richard Isakson's calculation is flawed because he's assuming constant acceleration for the entire run.

The near instantaneous massive rearward weight transfer of a top fuel dragster would generate about 5Gs, perhaps even more for a split second.
