Sold the 8 bought a...

2012 speed3. So quick history, I bought the 8 about 4 years ago and loved the car. But a month after buying I was having issues. First issues that came up was new coils, plugs, wires and a new cat. I had a warranty so I was all set with that. Then a year an half later I had to get a reman put in for a noise that the dealer couldn't determine what it was. Again it was taken care of under warranty. Within a year later I had to get the SSV replaced. Luckily that was replaced with a extended warranty that I bought with the car.
Then this past Month I was having hard starts to where the car almost wouldn't start. Brought it in and they said that it lost compression and the engine needed to be replaced again. I always took car of oil changes every 2000 miles. Let warm up all the way before shutting it off. Redline it at least once a day. I loved the car but I was having a lot of expensive issues and I won't have a warranty forever.

So some pics of the 8:

Your not the only one and i understand the issues your having with the rx8, and you made the right choice to trade it in, and you made another good choice and got another Mazda. Anyway, good looking Speed3, and good luck with it.

Thanks, it is a nice car and pretty fast. I am used to small two door sports cars. Before the 8 I had a 92 prelude, 93 Mazda MX6, 89 prelude. So this the first four door car I have owned. Pluse I do have a wife and a kid so the extra space works out better. Before I chose the speed3, I was looking at the 2013 Hyundai genesis Coupe 2.0T and the 2013 BRZ. Those would been in the ball park of what I was used to. Also leaving the world of RWD back to FWD after four years is a change again. But I love it and would recommend it to anyone looking for new sporty sex machine.

I love my 8 too much to do this. Especially that its been completely trouble free since I bought it in 03.

I'm waiting for the day I notice signs of low compression. So far it still starts up real quick and strong when hot so I know that's a good sign!

Either way, I love that Speed3!

Yeah, I love the 8 2. I love body and the way the engine works and the sound it made going up to 9rpms. It is a great car. If I had the money, space and knowledge to rebuild the engine every time it fucked up, I would have kept it. But I only leave from paycheck to paycheck, no saving for engine for the future and sadly right now no saving for a house. But I won't have to worry about the engine in the speed for about 5 or 6 years.

I don't know what happend to the first reman I got for it to only last me a year 1/2. I tried to follow ever rotary rule I read about. When I did trade it in with 76000 miles with a new reaman, they gave me 7500 for it and selling it for 14900.

Did you have overheating problems in your 8? All that mesh definitely was not helping you. Maybe it is just the pictures but it looks like the holes are pretty tiny and it would be reducing airflow by quite a bit. Unless the mesh over your oil coolers was basically right on top of them that will also cause more heat.

Basically, please don't mesh your speed3 in the same way. Nice car though.

No, I never had any issues with overheating. My temp ran anywhere between 188-203.
The speed3 runs right around the same temp.

The gas mileage is big plus. I am saving a little more money at the pump and Insurance is only an extra five bucks a month for me. The car payment is higher of course. I am dreading to have to pay the taxes on the speed3. It's going to suck ***.

Man I know exactly how you feel... My commute spiked from 12kms a day( School and work) to 200km round trip. So I was forced to sell my 8 and get something better on gas. Overall all I'm somewhat happy with my purchase. It's a 2001 330i with 140k on the odo and maintenance logged since the first owner( I'm the 3rd)

I give it less than a year before that BMW is junked.

Friend bought one brand new, transmission problems.
Bought an 09.. brand new, transmission problems.

Another friend bought one with 120k miles, a 325i, transmission is going. It's around $10k to replace as well.

you are right that you don't have the warranty forever. This problem of RX8 occur not first time. I think you make a good decision to trade it and bought another one Mazda speed 3 which is looking really good. I wish you best of luck for this new one.

That speed3 is a great car. I love the thing and I am not going to mod the thing to much. One of issues with the 3 is the fuel pressure needs to be up graded if you add more then a intake and a exhaust. So the 3 has its issues but the can be tamed if done right.
