Maybe I won't be getting a GT-R anytime soon.

Who needs a pedestrian safety system? A bit of fiberglass and some fabbed hinges and your good to go...

i know right i mean if your hitting a person i wonder how much a raised hood will actually help them ... also i know they probably put hours and hours of research into it but i mean seriously how NECESSARY is this feature?

I think the GT-R is packed with almost too much technology... I mean wtf is a raised hood going to do if your going fast? sigh...

The EU has a law which requires a certain clearance between hood and anything within (i.e. engine). The GT-R didn't have that, as far as I heard, and so they had to devise this walkaround. It's a challenge all car manufacturers must face, but some compromise the design/aero for it.

Seems like a good deal compared the price of a Shelby GT500KR hood...which does nothing fancy.

I like the GTR very much but I dont think I can stand these kind of costly minor repairs if anything happens...

Costs more. 21k. No joke. I read about it in a thread on some Ford forum after the guy hit a deer or some other animal. Shelby wouldn't sell it to the guy unless he shipped his old hood back either,

He should just be happy he wasn't in a head-on collision, with that amount of force the hood would have sliced right into the windshield and decapitated him.

Damn, that sucks. Don't forget the front of our cars are designed to crumple for pedestrians as well. That is why our hoods have the honey comb design.

of course they did. Hoods crumple. They don't fly backwards. Even still, the hood would deflect off the windscreen/a-pillars not slice through them.
