Selling my old car without a title?

The problem is...im trying to sell my car but have not yet recieved my pink slip.

I paid the last payment for my car and am just waiting for the pink slip.

Because i dont have a pink slip, how can i sell my car?

I currently have a buyer who wants the car in the next couple of days.

What kinds of forms do i need to sign to hand over the ownership of the car and where can i obtain them.

Like i said before, i didnt recieve my pink slip yet, so whats the quickest way to give ownership to the person who wants to buy my car.

Please respnond quickly!!! I need help!

Hmmm, maybe you received it a week ago from the lein-holder, and now you've lost it? :D

Also, try searching online for your state's laws if you need quick guidance.

There doesnt appear to me much you can do until you get title. Looks like you sold car before being able to. Sometimes it can take weeks to get your title after paying car off, so this is nothing new. Yo may be able to do what some used car dealerships do. Give purchaser a bill of sale, and when title comes in you mail it to them. I don't think that works for a private sale though. If he wants car enough, you can make your own bill of sale, and he can get tmeporary tags until title arrives. As a buyer, I know I wouldn't buy a used car without title in hand though. Your best bet is to contact your lien holder, and comnfirm car is oficially paid off, and find out where title is, and when it will arrive. Push them a little and you may get it in a few days. Good luck!!

How to sell your car privately

If you don't have a pinkslip then heres what you do. First go online and find a generic billing receipt form that you can fill out showing the amount the buyer has paid you and all the auto information, then get a notory republic to sign it. Give the receipt to the buyer and keep a copy for yourself. Then while your waiting for the pinkslip to arrive get you car smog tested. Once you get the pinkslip sign it over to him and give him the smog certificate he will need it for registration purposes. At that point you can give him the car. The last thing you need to do is fill out a notice of release of liabilty form and mail it to the DMV ( you can get the form online at the dmv website and you have 5 days from the sale date to mail it in). Make sure you tell the Buyer that he/she also need to fill out a transfer of liabilty form at the DMV when they're are registering the vehicle they have 10 days from the sale date. This information is for California, it may be different in other states.

The funny thing is that the buyer wants a car so badly and doesnt care much about the title issue. (He is a college student.)

I've just asked my honda finance company, they said i can sell my car legally w/o the tiltle.

This is what they said.

1) Fill out a "bill of sale" and send it to DMV.

2) I get my money, he gets a car and a temp tag. (He has an insurance w/ my car VIN #)

3) Fill out a "notice of transfer and release of liability" within 5days of date of sale.

-------few weeks gap---------

4) I get the title, sign it, hand over it to a buyer.

Does this way sound safe?

Also...what's up about a "transfer of title/change of ownership" form? Should I fill it out, too?

Sound alright. As long as you transfer the liability to him you should be okay.
