I've never seen one on the road, kind of disappointing, however I've seen a few at autoshows such as the recent "Hot Import Nights." It was a decent place to see cars like that, however I'd love to see something like this on the road every once in a while. I get excited when I see a WRX or 350Z nowadays. I hate the thruway.

you better be going to a college because a 14 or 15 year old should not own a skyline GTR

I've seen them a couple times down here over the years. I know they are all imports but to me they look too dated at this point.

Well, expect insurance rates to go up. A 16 year-old in a pumped up skyline = disaster.

Yeah, a kid in a GTR, which has this rep as the "unbeatable" car in tons of games and one particular movie, is just asking for a disaster. Well, it was nice knowing that GTR.

I have no problem with the kid owning that car, but I think kids need to prove that they're going to be good drivers before being rewarded. Either start the kid with a small car for a while to see how they'll do, or enroll them in a racing school. Just tossing them into the GTR is asking for trouble.

There is 2 Skylines in my city and we are only 100,000-110,000 population.
There is an R32 Non-Turbo. It looks pretty damn good though.
Also there is an R33 GTS-T that is being convereted to a RB26DETT.

I have got some pictuers of the R33. Let me find them really quick.

well, the rates will go up...but for a person that got 2 skylines for his kid (an r34 is on the way) i dont think that the increased rates are going to bother him too much.

I've driven both the r32 and the r33. And yes they are fast and handles really well. Now the only legit company (Motorex) that sold the skylines is now gone because they were trying to pull a wool over the governments eyes. one of the 2 owners is in jail while the other fled to japan long before the U.S. government caught up. Well that was like last year when I heard about this. But I know for sure there are others who are trying to bring in the skylines. But let me tell you if its by JDMevolution, I would be very wary of them. I personally know those people and well don't trust them too much.

I've never seen a true JDM Skyline in person. I think F&F is the only movie I've seen with them too. Where are all the ones in the US? Is there a registery or something online? I'd love to know if (or how many) there are any crusing around the Bay Area.

Now I don't know of any actual news reporting of motorex's closure. But checkout the website I think its www.motorex.net . click on team and you'll see towards the bottom on the latest shows and events motorex was at. you'll see that the dates are a bit outdated. and if you also click on export and store, those pages are not available. So this site has not been maintained. If the company is still around, it should definitely maintain its site. especially since its all in basic html.

I'll tell you this. If there is a company out there wanting to be the next motorex, it'll cost you at least 750k and 2 skylines of same year/trim model. And thats not the actual startup and operating costs. Thats the fee for the crash test data for that year's car. For example: you want to sell the r32? well you need 2 of those same trim models and crash test it. you want to sell the r33 again you need 2 of those same tirm models and crash test it. And that would cost you 750k for each pair of cars to crash.

Well the story on why motorex has been closed down is that, they tried to get a r33 and pass it as a r34 gtr during the crash tests. And well some government official saw the pictures and found it too be a little be fishy.

Now I'll tell you this. Anyone that tells you they can get a R35 or silvia (S15) legally for you is lying as far I have heard around the grapevines is that no one has done the crash tests for these cars as of yet (because of the crash testing fee). and the only company I know of that would attempt this is JDMevolution. And even if they did succeed on bringing them over legitly. I'd be very careful when dealing with them. I don't know if they are still the shady bunch of closed minded people, that backstabbed me.

I tried looking on their website which is JDMevolution and it wouldn't load. So either the whole idea of JDMevolution has disappeared or that guy is too lazy to upload the damn websites. You guyz can try. Its www.JDMevolution.com

well basically the only other company that i know of that brings em in 100% legit with SKYLINE on the registration etc etc has an employee at rx7club.com i forgot the name of the company but they've been doing it for a couple years now and have some decent stock right now. as of now they are the only ones, they can also tell you the full story on motorex. if you would like more info i can find out the name of the company and give you contact information to one of the employees.

Stealthfox,

I believe you are talking about a guy named Sean. I could be wrong about his name. But Sean works for R&B Motoring at which was started by an ex-motrorex mechanic and one of the motorex one time customer. And if anything, they went through motorex when it came to modifiying skylines to US federal standards.

And also there is only 1 portal at which all cars are being conformed to US specs and its by that George guy I mentioned in the above post. Only he has the right to conform the skylines to U.S, specs. And at the moment a few wannabe motorex are trying to make a deal at which they are the only ones dealing with George.

Before Motorex was shutdown, They were the only ones allowed to use the crash test data, since they were the only ones who paid for it. It would have been cheaper to go through motorex to have these skylines conformed to US specs. Those crash test data is gone along with the company. So there is no legit way to drive any new(actually used) skylines in the US.

Oh yeah motorex was started in 1997. There is a import law when it comes to bringing in non-domestic cars. The law is that the car has be out for at least 2 years before being able to bring it the the US. So if you want car "X" then the latest one you can get is the 2003 model.

(Obviously) I've seen plenty of R32, R33 and R34. I personally prefer the looks of the R33 over the R34.

The R34 production ended in 2002, so no issues...

You should also check out the modded Toyota Chasers. Damn... I've seen some seriously fast ones on the highway before when I was in Northern Japan. When onthe way to Kyoto once, I saw this beautiful R32 jump out of traffic and go flying down the road... "Pssssst!"
