Id rather have the mazdaspeed3 but if i can get an 08 4door cobalt SS in a couple years for 7k w/ 50k miles as a commuter i might. Car and Driver managed to tie an EVOs track time twice now. Its butt ugly inside n out but would fly below police radar especially the 4 door.

oh yeah I plan on keeping the 8 a long while its a weekend/around town toy not for racking up miles. Id be trading in a Dodge stratus which i commute in for a used cobaltSS or MS3 or maybe a rex. RWD rules but not in the winters here.

...for some indepth understanding of what the car can do check out March 09 Motor Trend Pg 94 "small, fast, fun....chevy cobalt ss: You sure you're supposed to behere?"

The end comment on the car "OK, I sheepishly admit I like this car."

Why? (in this test):

- quickest car
- faster than WRX
- shortest 45-65mph
- lighest lateral Gs on the skidpad
- no-lift shift feature worrk great
- 30mpg
- comfy ride
- light torque steer

downsides,

- a sheep when off boost
- 40ft turning circle
- low rent interior

Sounds like a cheap, no worry, drive it like you stole it, winning track car to me...strip the sucky interior and everything else, add a bit more in the go-wizz dept (should be cheap motor/handling upgrades), leave your ego at home and trounce lots of expensive 'pretty' 'ego satisfing' sportier cars. You'll get gruging respect, but no friends amonst the ^nose BMW, Porsche, Evo, Mazda, Mini, Saturn, Ford, ...hell just about anybody else car crowd!

...but it could be fun

I thought only the 2 door SS came with the optional supercharged engine?

This car reminds me of the Neon SRT, and before that the Integra Type -R, and before that the VR6 Corrado. Manufactures will always put out some hot coupe that will be equal to or embaress some sports cars. That doesn't meen there sports cars though.

My Integra will give my RX-8 a run for its money with its go-fast goodies on it, but at the end of the day I still rather be behind the wheel of my 8.

The Cobalt SS is a great FWD coupe that can smoke most cars in the sub 35k range with ease in the straits and the twisties. But the majority of enthusiast are not trading there EVO's,WRX's,Zcars,RX's, S2000, etc for the price of entry to be in a SS Cobalt as good as it may seem.

Cobalt SS = Hot sports coupe econo box, not sports car. There still is a gigantic gap there between the two. I highly doubt anybody shoping for a Corvette is looking at a SS Cobalt, more like people who are looking at the Cobalt is drooling , wishing they could get into a Corvette at the GM dealership.

I agree. In fact.. I haven't gotten any more tail in my 8 then with my 6, deville, daytona or contour. But at the same time it does make me happy, and it does raise my social value to any girl that knows its mine..

I get the ***** thing from guys all the time. "Damn dude if I had this car I'd be ******* hotties every night." That's just lame. Getting random, promiscuous sex with hot girls on a regular basis requires good, solid, tight game and not much else. The car definitely helps, though, and can convey class & taste as well.

I dont use my 8 TO GET WOMEN, I use my 8 to HELP to get women. I got hot chicks without an issue before owning the rx8. But the RX8 does help for a conversation piece or the "ohh take me for a ride!" I randomly get at parties
