rx8 vs. C6 vette
Surfing around this morning, went to the Canadian Corvette website. Just browsing around, I clicked on the "compare corvette" link. Lo and behold, a new popup window opens and GM's default Corvette Coupe comparisons are checked off for you. Chevrolet considers the Z4 and the 8 to be recommended comparisons. They also have a couple of checkboxes for Boxter and 911.
I guess that's a compliment to 8 owners. But I've always felt that the Vette performance puts the car in a class ahead of the 8.
Try it at www.gmcanada.com

I hope the buyer figures out he/she can get bargain-basement performance with the RX-8. :p
That is nice GM decided to have a comparison between the C6 and the SE; even Japanese rival Nissan acknowledges the fact the RX-8 is a contending sports car.

There is no comparision between the two because they are such different cars.
The rx-8 is great car ,that is well balenced and a blast to drive.
While the vette is a sports car that knocks on the door of super car perfomance.
Sounds like to me its just a way for chevy to make their vette seem so much better by comparing it to the rx-8 or the z4 or boxer.
They know ----heck the whole automoblie worlds know's, the new vette is a better performer number wise than those cars.
Its just marketing nothing more .

But still it seems like if you go for the 8 you need more practicality, with a vette you just toss that out the window (for the most part)

I also wanted a corvette when I started shopping. But once I looked at cost, insurance, storage (golf clubs & cooler), etc. I felt that the 8 actually was a better car for my needs. It is hard enough to justifiy an expensive weekend car but when it won't carry the stuff I need for that trip then its even harder. Now if it was a ferrari, I could probably leave the clubs at home
And the 8 is a much more distinctive looking car, at least until the 05 vette.

The 350Z and the Vette are more likely to be compared when one is looking for a 2 seater sports car. The fact that I needed space for a third passanger is what ruled out the 350Z for me, and thus the Vette couldn't even be considered.
The 05 model is very sweet. From the side view the rear looks chopped off, which is my only complaint. From the rear, it looks good though.

I can see the comparison between a 350Z vs. Vette as a far better comparison. Even then we are trying to compare cars with MSRP's in the low $30's to a car with an MSRP in the low $40K. Performance wise the Vette will pretty much kill anything but it is $10K to $12K more. That is MSRP to MSRP. I'm sure you will have Vette fans screaming that in a year you will be able to get $5K off MSRP, which would not make me a happy camper if I was a Vette owner trying to re-sell my car.

I meant that its just not TYPICAL a concern with vette buyers.
While it might be a moreso with an RX8 buyer (or say an acura/bmw buyer)

Acoording to a re-sale artical that I read off one of the new sites. vette's have a high resale of about 48% after five years. I think it was rated #3. The 8 was also on that list at #8 the resale figure was something like 44% after five years. All of those values are based on the car being in great condition though. By the way most of the cars on the list were imports only two were american, the vette and one that I can't remember.

I've compared the 8 to a vette as well, but I am talking about used C5's.
Frankly, I really do think that the 8 is more fun to drive! The C5 is damn fast, but it just feels heavy to me.
Still haven't decided for sure, but I am 90% leaning towards a new RX-8 vs a used C5.

Comparing a 'Vette to a RX8 is ubsurd. Any one with half a monkey brain can figure out that there are huge differences between the two, let alone about $20,000. Sounds like GM is just looking to make themselves look good to lesser cars in the market. They should compare with the Viper. At least then the two cars will have more in common, and the 'Vette would still be a better buy.
