And that is why nissan picked up the word zx in there fairlady cars, and the 180sx (240sx hatch back).
And of course, the Maxda RX2, RX3, and RX4 were available in coupe, sedan, and station wagon form. I wonder how much they though "sport" was involved in this RX4 wagon: http://allclassifieds.com.au/img-320...b2614ace9e.jpg |

"Trivia: Mazda usually reserves the X, such as MX-5 and RX-8, for use in the name of its sports cars. But the X in this instance stands for "crossover" vehicle. (That's their spin, honestly.)
Mazda says: "The CX-7 skilfully blends sports car verve with [four-wheel-drive] practicality." http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Ar...ID=11711&vf=12 and also i seen links where the rx said what you posted (rotart exper) but i couldnt find why nissan changed there z cars to zx. but the reasoning behind that was due to mazda. they seen in the 80's with rx-7 first gen out selling there z cars. so nissan also put a x behind some of there sport cars. It was a adversting thing. when ppl saw x they thought of it as the meaning sport. that is why 180sx used the letter x. Any how i seen this on a documentary about the rx-7 first gen. |
Just to add to above notation that the ZX was put in place as a market gimmick.
Which really when you look at when the Rx-7 came out and vs when it started selling well, the ZX brand was already on the road.... The Z and ZX were to represent 2 different styles of the original Z car. In many ways people believe that the ZX models were part of the death for the Z cars. The ZX which was first introduced in the 280zx in 1979 was a 280 with slightly more luxury. This is primarily what the ZX branding stands for is a Z car with more comfort, luxury etc. However this also bought the price of the cars up drastically, thus really taking away from the whole Z car philosophy and ultimately like with the Rx-7 and Supra they all disappeared among changing buyers market and highly inflated prices. |

guitarjunkie28- I hadn't seen that before... looks pretty good, but they should update the concept some more... the GT-R looks kind of like it (boxy back end and sides, forget the fronts)... too simple for my taste. Mazda should put a some subtle curves and /or bulges for aggresiveness in there somewhere.

They will not give up on the Rotary. :nono: |
Older thread, but it was all the search turned up.
I was poking around Mazda.com today and i ran across the Senku, which I see here you guys refer to the RX-9 (website doesn't). Website said it was a rotary-hybrid. Didn't see mention of that either. Did they just change this and I'm the first person to see this or why has there been no noise about this? Mechanically i guess it woud be the same as any hybrid...any mechanical engineers wanna pipe up w/ some tech? Would "rotor-shutoff" be a possibility like GM's trick? And most importantly, do you people in-the-know think that the PR line about fuel economy is the justification or is this big Power Solution everyone's been waiting for? And to all those naysayer's, look at the website, it has much better pictures. From straigt side view it does look very much like a sports car. It's the rear "seats" I can't jenga properly in my mind. :scratchhe |
If you search around hear about the Senku, you will see it was talked about since before its debut.
Also, Mazda stated that it will not do "rotor-shutoff" on its engine. |
Thanks for the info on the rotor shutoff. I did do a search for senku, that's why I tagged on to this thread. Since you recommended I did a more involved and careful search and did come up with a previous post on the rotary hybrid in the Senku. It just hadn't been mentioned in this, the most dominant CX-9/Senku thread.
That being said there were still some opinion questions i asked. Fuel Economy or Big Power? Are those things in the back passenger chairs or crazy "sex furniture?" Also, I'd like to opine that the rotary hybrid would probably still weigh less than a certain 3.5L V6 many people here seem to loath. |
It depends on the design of the engine and the overal goals. The Senku had a Direct Injection Hybrid with Electric motor. The Electric motor can assist with the start, low mph cruising, and idle conditions which can boost economy. They also can provide instant torque. The DI also can help boost efficiency up to 2%. Please don't quote me, and if someone more knowledgeable knows, please chime in.
Diesel Rotary- https://www.rx8club.com/general-automotive-49/diesel-rotary-80813/ Direct Injection- https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/direct-fuel-injection-rotaries-53866/ Hope that helps or point in the right direction. Work is crazy here and I find myself thinking of more stuff to research while at work, when I should be working. |
