Alarms do nothing for you. If they have an immobilizer they may stop the thief from taking the car, but they've still destroyed your window and possibly your interior in the process. I had an alarm on my Camaro and no one batted an eye whilst 10k worth of stereo equipment was stolen. The theives broke the window, climbed in, popped the hood, snipped the battery connection, bye bye alarm (a 9 volt bat. in the brain isn't going to sound the siren for long, if at all on most alarams). I was unlucky, but if and when I get my 8, it'll never be parked at my g/f's college over night I'll tell you that much - don't need to learn my lesson about theives sucking again.
Anyway, as for malicious vandals just messing up the car, I'm not really worried about them. I'm more worried about the massive amounts of morons who can not open a door without bumping the cars next to them, and the idiots that can't park or pull out of a parking spot without scraping the cars next to them. Those people suck! Same college parking lot where my stereo gear got jacked I had my car slammed by some, probably drunken, moron. Guess you just have to hope your insurance covers vandalism huh?
