a turbo wouldn't fit after though right? that would be the greatest car of all tiem- but would it slow the car- cause i think the 13b engine is hevier then the lotus it would definatly be worth it with a turbo thoguh

Umm why would it be slow? the lotus weight alone with a light engine still would be fast. i really do not think a turbo would be needed.

I thought the Elise used the old celica/tC 4-cylinder...it is aluminum but I still think the rotary would have a much lighter weight.

I don't know about the weight, but it could lower the Center of Gravity. This would depend on how it was installed.

Anything is possible if you have enough time and money.

Lotus needed to go with a transverse engine/transmission setup for their car. The rotary was never designed for this application so the biggest problem is going to be mounting it up to a FWD transmission. After that you'll have to fabricate an engine supframe and then there is still wiring. Like I said serious time and money.

The motor in the Elise is fine, it is lightweight and it gets good gas mileage. Add a supercharger, or turbo and you can get anywhere from 220 to over 400 whp. Adding a k20 is hard enough, I can't imagine adding a rotary. The car is very quick already, I would rather spend $6000 on a good supercharger and tune then a motor swap. It has been discussed on the Lotus forums repeatedly, but it always comes down to money and time. Most have realized it is not worth the effort.

if you have the money to do this and are worried about weight of the engine...get the RB aluminum housings to replace the cast iron ones...reduces the 13b block weight to 109 lbs.

The 2ZZ used in the Elise is heavier than the 13B-MSP by 10 pounds. However, the 13B will need more auxiliary hardware as Mazda also runs two oil coolers while Lotus runs one cooler for their 2ZZ.

I would think that it would be pretty great with aluminum housings, but tail heavy with the stock steel ones. That being said, I'm not sure the 13b-rew would do too well in the back end of my car without some SERIOUS ducting to sweep away heat. as it stands, the car is over-cooled though, so I could be wrong. it would be alot of fun! all aluminum housings, a GT35R turbo, good intercooler ducted from the roof scoop... mmm...yeah, that'd be great.
