I'm not quite sure why you guys are quick to doubt this. It's been done before. I for one think it's pretty damn cool. Well that is except for the fact he's using a Beetle. You can pick up used jet engines for fairly cheap. The New Zealand guy who designed and built his own fully functional cruise missile at home was unbelievable (but true). This isn't all that difficult or terribly expensive if you know what you're doing.

I agree with rotarygod. There dosen't need to always be a lot of nay-saying when you see something this cool. I would of used something other than a beetle but it's still pretty impressive. He even has Halon fire surpression. Although I think in the cases of jet engines that's a good thing. Although I hope it's contained because if you are sitting in the car you wouldn't want to run out of air because of the halon. I'm sure he's thought of that though.

ok, jet engines take in huge amounts of air to keep these things going, hence all the warning stickers on jets and helo's to stay many feet out of the intake area. This site lists 11,000 cubic feet per minute. Look at the area around the intake, not much room there to be sucking 11,000 feet of air a minute ( thats 184 feet of air per sec), nevermind ripping all loose items around the car into the intake, possibly including the driver who is sitting inches away. Not sure this is workable.

Anyone see the vid of the navy jet at idle sucking a mechanic into the intake. I thinks is a nice toy flame thrower that makes lots of noise...

Thank you! Now, assuming for just a moment that the guy has a harness strong enough that he won't get sucked in (just get all the hair sucked off his head) can you imagine the noise level? If he managed to sit that close without hearing protection he'd have permanent hearing damage in a very few minutes.

Meanwhile check out the shabby sheet metal work on the "exhaust." Did you read his explanation?!? "Here you can see the split in the tailpipe after a particularily rude burner pop. All fixed and reinforced now." Too funny! (BTW Sparky, it's called a compressor stall, not a burner pop.)

Just a FYI. In Ohio, and I'm sure it's similar in other states. You only need a red flag from the back of the car if it's 6 feet past the rear bumper.

Regarding many of the rants, above.. remember this is a small jet engine. 1350 HP, 14" 'tailpipe'.

Seems like its most important to discredit this, rather than marvel at the accomplishment.

I marvel that so many people bought it.

I'm not saying that i bought it. I'm just saying that it could be feasable. Although you would think that if it was real, it would be fairly simple to post a video of the thing.

Well I more or less buy it too, but a video would seal the deal for me.

There are more than a few jet powered cars like that around. I've seen a couple MR2s, a bunch of go karts, and some Hondas.

... imagine the oversteer on that Honda when one engine goes out while the other is working...

Come on guys, this is cool stuff - real or not. This kind of thinking got people on the moon.

^ There are many people that still don't believe that so don't give all of the people of the world too much credit. There are few smart ones here and there and the rest just doubt everything.

Check out this guys site: http://www.aardvark.co.nz/pjet/

The picture where the pulse-jet nearly burns his face is hiliarious.

I agree w/ RG: there are plenty of these types of projects around. Using thrust however is pretty stupid with these types of engines, as a lot of energy is wasted. Turboshaft engines are better for cars.

I'm buying the idea... PhD of Engineering at Stanford...is it possible that there is some sort of grant money involved here?

I can't see anyone going through that much trouble to cut up a new car and not make it fully operational...especially if he already had experience with smaller jet engines on that scooter.

And I like the choice of vehicle for this mod...
