Motor problems

My rx is having some problems. It smokes rrally mad when I start it and idles really rough but one it warms up and I drive it it stops and runs great. I have put two and two together and decided I have a coolant system leak (coolant in my #2 rotor) but I dont know how to tell if it is a blown water seal or a cracked housing. And if it is a water seal, is it worth replacing and how hard is it?

This is a thread about where to find engine rebuilders not about how to rebuild an engine. Try asking your question here.

Just to breathe a little life into the thread, I thought I'd post this "Good Guy" link.

AFAIK, MER does not rebuild engines. They will do R&R with JDM, reman, and built engines. They will also tear yours down and tell you what went wrong with it, but that's about it, engine-wise. They offer a lot of other services to rotary (and Miata) owners generally, but they do not rebuild engines onsite. Here is their rotary service page. This shop is located on premises at my home track, and I know the owner fairly well.

An update to BlackHaloRacing in Phoenix AZ, I spoke with Charles about having my engine rebuilt very recently and he said that BHR doesn`t do that anymore. He recommended a local rotary re-builder Caesar Hernandez. I don`t know anything about Caesar but maybe someone else on here does. I may take a chance and have my engine rebuilt and try Caesar in lue of Charles recommendation.

Thanks for the information.
Unfortunate.
Please update us when you get more info on Mr. Hernandez.

I can't seem to find a thread with a substantial number of reputable rebuilders, so I thought I would post the ones I've seen referenced on our forum.

Locations and reviews may help new members, and save time for the rest of us.

Please someone tell me what this IS and where it goes.

I have rebuilt my rotary 13b 2005 Mazda rx8 6 port manual.
I am installing everything back into the engine bay but I cannot for the life of me find where this part goes.

TeamRX8 05-16-2019 06:05 PM

This isn’t the proper thread to ask in, but the hose end plugs into the nipple located at the bottom center of the lower intake manifold right above the exhaust manifold and the other end connects to a rubber tube to the intake accordion tube in front of the throttle body. This hose/tube assembly provides filtered air to the two jet air-fuel nozzles (PAB) that help wash off fuel from the primary intake port walls into the engine for improved emissions.

It’s the non-colored line next to the red colored line from the SSV actuator on the intake manifold in this picture

I will, it's up to members to do their research.

NotAPreppie 06-11-2019 01:16 PM

I mean, they do offer rotary mechanic services but I only have one data point regarding their quality and it's negative.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
