Hello,

I'm currently in the military and will be shortly returning home (back to the States)and am pretty much set on purchasing an RX-8. As part of the job, I need to travel a lot and was wondering if I could get some feedback on how the car serves during road trips, say in the 1500-2500 mile range? I take care of cars well, and am familiar with the unique care required for rotary engines. Anyone experience any problems or lessons learned? Thanks.

my rx8 is a road warrior, i travel for work often times to places i cant fly and as long as you have a quart or two in the trunk all you'll really have to worry about is filling it with gas and checking the oil level.

its probably the most comfortable car in its class for long road trips, it has relatively the softest suspension so you wont be feeling every bump on the road and the seats are great. the lack of space in the trunk is a serious issue though if you have lots of luggage. Not as great as some other cars, but as far as sports cars goes, rx8 is one of the best for long road trips.

I've driven the car on several long trips and use it as daily driver as well. It's a great car for long ranges (except for the mileage). Seats and suspension are comfortable and stay comfortable after 10 hours of nonstop driving.

Only lesson learned is to always carry at least one quart of oil in the trunk, oil consumption seems to increase at higher driving speed and I had to add oil during trips a few times.

I agree with the above. It's an excellent cruiser, but the trunk (the access to the trunk in particular) is kinda tight. Of course, you've got good access to the rear seats for bags because of the rear doors.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. Anyone experience any type of engine overheating during extended driving for 6-7-8 hours straight? My 98 Prelude used to overheat pretty easily if I was driving up a hill, temp was about 100 or so and the AC was on.

Also, I'm hoping by the time I return the 06's will be well out. Is it safe to say that all the wonderful ECU flash updates and mechanical upgrades to address flooding will be incorporated?
