Rented Charger SXT in Reno

Went out to Reno over the weekend and rented a silver Charger SXT. 1st impression is its a larger than I really noticed--it had the 3.5L 250HP V6 with 5speed autostick tranny. The interior materials were adequate--hard plastics turn me off though. It had pep--off the line accel. wasn't particularly exciting but passing power was fine. It only had 300 miles on the clock when I picked it up at the airport--I doubled that---hard hard miles :p Would I get one--maybe an SRT8 but definately not the regular ones. The attention it drew was amazing--I was actually shocked. People kept stopping me everywhere asking about it.

While in Reno I saw only 2 RX8s and 2 350Zs, maybe 3 S2000s, 1 Evo, no C6 Vettes--but countless C5s and WRXs were everywhere. I assumed that would be the case given the terrain and climate.

Did it feel like a heavy car? If so the V8 version would prolly feel like a tank in the twisties.

I went to Vegas a week ago and all I saw were 300C's. Even taxi cabs were the Chryslers. No Dodge Chargers, but there were 2 slot machines with RX-8's as prizes.

I knew it would come to this, they're giving them away now!

Something is telling me that the twisties was never the point to begin with for a v8 muscle car

If it handles like the Magnum RT they're no slouch in the handling department. Nothing spectacular but plenty good for spirited driving.

I've heard the V6 Magnum is noticeably more agile than the V8 version, but I've never read a review of the AWD V8 version. Something about a hemi V8 mated up to AWD sounds tempting to me. But like TOCreamer said, inherently you don't expect a muscle car to handle...especially a Dodge. It would be nice if they could pull it off though.

The SRT-8 layed the smack down on some very serious track cars in one lap of america.

Considering some other prize cars were a 911 and some various vipers I think that is fine company...

Yeah--It felt very heavy and sold; but it handled better than I thought--I wish I could've packed my RX8 for the drive down to Lake Tahoe on Highway 50. Oh and to chime in on what Ike said--the SRT8 300 kicked some *** in 1-Lap with minimal mods--I believe it had 450-475HP compared to the 425 stock.

Yeah, with 295 width tires all around (custom fenders) and an almost straight (no cats) exhaust for 450 hp.

The charger V6 only has a 2.87 axle ratio, the rt has 2.82. Something is definately wrong there.

Okay, think WAY back. Fear Factor, anyone? Red one was given away in the first season of the show, if my memory serves me right. :D
