The Renesis is Getting Dirty!

I didn't know this but apparently the Superlite series trucks use mid-mounted Renesis engines, pretty cool!

The current Super Lite truck makes use of Mazda’s robust 1.3-liter Renesis rotary engine that’s normally seen in the RX-8. A dry-sump system is added in addition to a few other tweaks during the build-up, which produces a race engine that revs to 8500 rpm and registers surprisingly consistent power figures of around 240 bhp on the shop’s 2500-hp DTS engine dyno. The engines are purchased ŕ la carte through Mazdaspeed and assembled in-house for both cost and blueprinting efficiency. After assembly, the mid-mounted rotary is then mated to an H-pattern 4-speed Mendeola transaxle housing Weddle racing gears, which then drives the rear pair of series-approved 30-in. off-road tires.

love this sentence. robust is not usually a term I hear associated with the renny

It's been getting dirty for a few years....;)

2550lb?! What did they build it out of, concrete?!

zoom44 02-13-2011 07:11 PM

I keep looking at ours with all the welded steel brackets we've chucked in for the sake of tight schedules, and thinking it could do with a diet of billet ally bits.
If it came up at 2500+lb on the scales I'd be getting the angle grinder out!

Must be all those shiny stickers and layers of polish and wax they put on ;)
They're far too clean, here's one that's properly dirty:

Shiny new parts this year for ours, reworked the suspension and uprated the cooling system so it'll cope with an Eaton M90....:smoker:

mscamp02 02-13-2011 07:24 PM

gotta admit that is one badass hobby to get into

PhillipM 02-13-2011 07:28 PM

It's certainly badass on the old wallet.

One race and all your shiny new parts are worn out already.

Never knew that until now.

That's because you live here on RX8Club.com. In the real world, rotary engines – including the Renesis – are robust. As is mine. And tens of thousands of others you'll never read about.
