I like it. I also like the 5, hate the 7, and am out to lunch on the Z4. I'm all for flame surfacing and edgy design, but ugly is ugly, and the 7 is ugly. It has presence, but so does Mike Tyson...

My opinion: LOVE the 5, can take or leave the 7, the Z3 was hot when it came out, and the Z4 is going a little overboard.
Without that black and silver tape, the 3 will look okay, but a little too sedan-ish, kind of a "Taurus for the new millenium" kind of look. I bet they try to luxo-up the 3, to increase the separation between the 3 and the new 1-series. I think if you line up the 1, the new 3, the 5, and the 7, you'll see the intended progression . . . but taken by itself the new 3 looks a little too luxo and not quite enough budget/sport.

Doesn't look like anything special. I definatly expected something a little more "out there" like the 5 and 7. This is just bland. It will probably look much different, and hopefully sportier, at a higher trim level.

Personally, I like the Z4 alot. I keep trying to convince my wife to get one, but she wants a Mini Cooper Convertible. I also like the look of the 5, 6, and 7. I'm with cueball on the 3. I'll wait until the 3 comes out to formulate a final opinion.
If i had to decide right now, I would say it looks alot like a Hyundai.

It looks just average to me. It probably won't get as much hate mail as the 5 or 7, but it can't be called beautiful either. The current e46 3 series beats it hands down in the looks department.
I'm kind of odd in that I actually like the current 7. A black 760iL does it for me. But I hate the e60 5 series inside and out! Took the wife to see the new 530/545i and she said "there's no way I'm trading in my 540 for that!", and she called the interior "scary". I felt the same, the interior on the 5 is not a comfortable design and the quality of the materials has gone down hill.
