Rape and Pillage, the car industry
I work at a volvo shop as a mechanic. We have all seen the gimicks these days: $5 relays that go as computer chips for $75, Blower motors that go as superchargers, but I have officially seen the greatest scam of all time. A customer came into our shop with 1998 sedan. He had just purchased a part which claimed to add 10% better fuel economy to his vehicle. He paid $50. This "part" was 2 stickers in an obscurely large box. They were nothing more than your regular run of the mill laminated stickers. You are supposed to attach them to the bottom of your fuel tank and they will then, "through the miracle of science" give you 10% better fuel economy. We threw them on and sent the guy home happy as can be. Just thought everyone would enjoy a good laugh.

It isnt my shop, so I had no say as to whether or not he got charged. I wasnt the one working on the car either, but lets just say the guys in my shop were under the car laughing while it was going on. Personally, i would have told the guy he had been ripped off and he is better off sticking them up his ***, but some people just care about making money no matter whether it's right or not.
