Project Street Ray

Hey all,
Moon and I have collaborating on a project thats been in the works for the last couple months now. We diecided we wanted to include the RX8 Community in the project in regards to feedback and interest. I'll let Moon discuss the techinical aspects of the project including short and long term goals, and estimated specifications. Heres where it all started,,,, https://www.rx8club.com/lounge-4/twisted-metal-step-into-darkside-146701/ Moon will speak to this more...

We encourage any and all criticism and encouragement and would like to keep a continuous discussion going on the progress of the project and any sugestions in expertise that you may bring to the table, as we reach to bring this product to the general public. I am starting the post to display the concept sketches that I've been working on in the last couple weeks, these are initial concepts based on discussions between Moon and I on the visual persona we want to convey through the vehicle. In the near future these sketches will be refined into a select group of visual directions we seek to take. From there I will move forward in taking responcibility in translating the sketches into an engineering software, bringing the 3D forms to reality in bodywork... Enjoy and thanks in advance for the criticism...
First five images are in order from the latest ideas moving right to older concepts that still may hold merrit in their content....

these next several are older designs that have been gradually phased out

Moon Assad 10-27-2008 10:09 PM

Man, they all look awsome, keep up the good work. :)

Migi'sBatmobile 10-27-2008 10:11 PM

Aren't you worried about oversteer with this design????
Or is the rear tire going to be WIDE.....
Also is it rotarty powered????

Rotr8 10-27-2008 10:16 PM

305 series in the back and besides all vehicles like this have some oversteer and that half the fun,,, as for Power Moons working a really sweet Rotary package...

shinka213 10-27-2008 10:44 PM

Hey Greg....im impressed...lookin goooood!!

Migi'sBatmobile 10-28-2008 06:09 AM

Just for thought i doubt that it is possible, what about a twin 13b set up...... And make it twin turbo just for fun, that would crank out some serious numbers......

kersh4w 10-28-2008 09:27 AM

nice design. my last pine car (when i was 12) looked remarkably similar to the aptera typ-1. love the 3 wheel design, very aerodynamic.

Well, a 1 rotor putting down 200hp in a les then 1000 pound trike, you do the math power to weight.

kersh4w 10-28-2008 09:32 AM

now if only a 2 rotor got 400hp.

Rotr8 10-28-2008 09:59 AM

lol I htink at that point we wouldnt be able to make traction....

alfy28 10-28-2008 10:41 AM

Very nice Roto. reminds me of Akira :)

i meant for the rx8.

are you running a single rotor based on the 13b-rew?

Rotr8 10-28-2008 11:20 AM

No Moon is actually gonna use the Rene, the pic he has now the setup is a TC hes gonna develope the engine in partnership with Petit, Single Rotor Rene SC'd

CyberPitz 10-28-2008 12:04 PM

This looks like one sexy project. Can't wait to see more info on this!

nvrfalter 10-28-2008 12:38 PM

holy shitballs. thats hot.

Moon Assad 10-28-2008 01:19 PM

If you run a single rotor you can rev it up to 11k making more power but thats with a 13b housing that was tested buy Cam in the past. The plan is to have the crank balanced to handle 13k but I dont want to make any assumptions till I see the tac after the motor is built and abused. Keep in mind that with a single rotor you have bearings on each side of the rotor, not 2 rotors between 2 bearings.

Im_DANomite 10-28-2008 05:39 PM

so it's basically a t-rex with a rotary?

Catspaw 10-28-2008 05:53 PM

This is too sick for words. Rotary + T-Rex + Garaiya :eyetwitch

Yes and no, im taking alot of the things that make it not so much a daily driver and hooking it up with stuff like AC for those really hot days, completly enclosing it for the rainy days, adding a slick way of heating it up on cold days and making the doors removable for those days that you just want a convertable. Also the factor of fuel consumption is noted, the T rex gets only 32 to35 MPG out of there 1400 Kawi. So imagine stripping your car down to 1/4 or 1/5th the weight that you lug around and then split your motor in half. Im not making any claims yet but im pretty sure your gona have the best of 3 worlds. The ability to rip a viper a new a$$ hole, out corner a Lambo and the milage of a hybrid. All in a package thats affordable.

Hey Dan , we've done alot of research on the TREX and the components they use reach the sum of about $10K, with some of thier components being down right cheapo,,, we are bring superior components

But yeah think TREX with SC'd Rotary with a sleek closed fender design and more aero,,,

Moon Assad 10-28-2008 07:08 PM

Yeh, out of the box withought having to buy a $18,000 body kit.

Im_DANomite 10-28-2008 07:08 PM

that's too cool. but with all those luxury accessories, you need to find some compact components. ac compressors, heater boxes, sound/heat insulations, instrument/climate control panels...the list goes on! this is a crazy challenge...i'd love to see the final stages.

this thing definately ain't gonna be cheap...

Rotr8 10-28-2008 07:15 PM

The challenges are many, we are thinking about tackling them in stages with the first production run(first 20-30) being open top roadsters then taking it to the next level with the closed cockpit version....

Moon Assad 10-28-2008 07:15 PM

Well, id say 80% of that is solved. Like a vent like the old VWs had behind the rad, that takes care of the heat issue. Just look at the other thread and see whats been done and give me an estimate on how much it cost me sofar.

EdwardsB 10-28-2008 10:26 PM

sweet project guys...nice sketches!

Ill be watching this. The front looks like it has some features from Lotus/Furai, which is sweet!

Moon Assad 10-28-2008 10:28 PM

Very intriguing, can't wait for more updates.

but what im seeing from picture, is it going to be Rear wheel steering??

No its front... what are you seeing that would leed you to that? we re having a custom swing arm built and the rear half is a CBR for now with the single rotor Rene coming very quickly...

You wont have to fly down there Pat(I know you wanna go for the weather), but Moon plans on bringing it here so I can build the body....
