Porsche's RX-8

The new Panamera is coming out. Check it out here.

The front reminds me of the RX-8, even more so in the 3/4 view. I like this Porsche....:)

They should build it. It's an RX8 - of course at another level, but same idea about a four seat sportscar.

And yes, one can argue that a M3, a G37, etc. is a sportscar too based on its performance but also its immediate steering and braking feel, response, etc.

But what I love about the 8 is that it feels like a proper sportscar yet it could fit 4 adults comfortably - that feeling of being low to the ground with a tight cockpit and ergonomics, plus to a lesser extent its look. I still think nothing's comparable. Toss in the light feel and perfect balance, it's the only 4 seat sportscar IMO. Unless they build this Porsche, though it may be a bit too bloated, so it may not change anything.

Yeah but it will have 450 and 500 HP to carry all that bloatness around. And this is Porsche where talking about, the company that builds cars to go extremely fast and make there cars handles like there on rails, the Panamera will handle the twisties just fine.:yesnod:

Clavius 07-12-2007 09:30 AM

So this is the car for those suffering a midlife crisis but still have kids to haul around?

Razz1 07-12-2007 09:33 AM

Yes I agree at first look it seems ugly.

Looks closer to a an Austin Martin DBR than an 8

MazdaJeff 07-12-2007 10:02 AM

Not bad for a four door.

NgoRX8 07-12-2007 10:11 AM

i don't see an 8 resemblence.

H8SUVS 07-12-2007 10:45 AM

I'd rock it. That would be nice to have as a LA to Las Vegas tourer.

krock1030 07-12-2007 11:24 AM

The front's nice but played out. The rear looks like poorly assembled book shelf. And I can see how they copied the 8... with those TINY ass dual muffler tips.

Cody Red 07-12-2007 11:31 AM

looks a little wide at the rear. i wonder what the weight is gonna end up being.

myriadshalaks 07-12-2007 11:47 AM

4 door porsche??? yuk. the suv was bad enough.

MyRXdrug 07-12-2007 12:33 PM

Yes I agree with you ^^^ Yuck a 4 door Porsche. But man do I love it! And I'll bet that interior will be nice and comfortable!

RPIRX-8 07-12-2007 01:42 PM

^^^ Well, everyone said the same thing when BMW came with the X5, now those things are selling like hotcakes. Is this car traditional Porsche, no it isn't. Will it sell a bunch, definitely yes. I just had a colleague who's wife made him sell his 02 Carrera 4S for an 5 series because his Porsche couldn't fit the kid well. This car is going to appeal to those who want to haul the fam around and still be able to get that rush on the highway/twisties.

jmerc 07-12-2007 01:45 PM

Porsche has been working on a four door for almost 20 years but things have always got in the way, like reccesion, market concerns, etc. Now the time has finally come where all the pieces fit, so we shall see what it comes out like.

No question, and I wouldn't be surprised if the limits are greater than the RX8. But my point is, you can't mask weight. I've been driving my father in laws Charger SRT-8 and it's a great handler, limits likely very close to the 8, but it does not have the reflexes, the transient response, or the feeling that you can catch it when you're really tossing it around. Plus, on a trackday, I'm sure the brakes would fade by lap two.

mikeferz42 07-12-2007 03:48 PM

that spoiler is just super ugly. it just looks like a 4 door boxster with a huge ass.

p.s. that spoiler is just super ugly!!!

The article says:

Obviously the rear spoiler is not done.
It also adds:

We wouldn't be surprised to see it retract into the bodywork and deploy as speeds increase for the production version.
Gee, just like another car I know.

User24 07-12-2007 07:38 PM

Looks about as good as Mark Hamhill trying to break out of the Luke Skywalker typecast. Porsche should stick to 1 bodystyle, just as the actor should stick to sci-fi.

Gohan 07-13-2007 12:14 AM

I don't like the spoiler

mikeferz42 07-13-2007 01:34 AM

good thing that spoiler's not done. i didn't read the article. i just looked at the pics. no wonder that spoiler looked like cottage cheese ass.
