Actually I paid $29,320 (with a free year of service that gets me to around $29K). Since when does $12,000 Hyundais have perfect recaro racing seats, a small momo steering wheel, and an excellent gearbox?? I don't give a crap about dashboards (as long as there is no digiate speedo) and climate control, but to each their own I guess.

Like you said, to each their own. But to me, there's more to life than racing seats and a Momo stering wheel.

OK, so basically you spent $29, 320 so you can take your "beautiful" racing seats, steering wheel and gearbox from 0-60 in under 5 seconds.

I bought this car because I wanted a fun, fast car, with a bit of practicality. I have no need to show my status in life through the vehicle I drive. I also have no need to be pampered and coddled in my car. If I want to be comfy, I'll lie on my couch at home.

IMHO it is a bargain at $29,320
One of the worlds greatest drivers cars, regardless of price. Seems like some people dont understand that

Why am I not surprised that a supporter of the EVO is an STI owner? Both these cars are in desperate need of good looks to go with their speed.
Last time I checked, this was a photo section for RX8s.

Because I primarily buy a car to drive, not to look at or pose in.
That is why I have an RX8 on order, if it doesnt meet up to my dynamic expectations then I wont buy it. The fact it looks good is a bonus, but not the reason why I would buy it.

Reading numerous articles from EVO and other British publications, the consistent drooling over the EVO (and STI) definitely warrants a serious look from any enthusiast. BTW....I definitely appreciate the British enthusiast view and am insanely jealous of the cars you have there!
Anyhow, I was never supposed to buy an EVO, as I have always been a fan of lightweight, high reving sports cars. However, the EVO, despite its weight, is so light on its feet that it feels agile (kind of like the Ray Lewis of cars). Two test-drives sealed the deal for me.
Anyhow, cars that get slammed by making superficial insults("looks crappy", "suped-up econobox", etc.) usually mean they have something (i.e. fun factor, performance, practicality) that these people value highly. Anyways, seeing that many EVO owners gave up cars like the plain WRX, Integra Type R, FD and S2000 confirms my feeling that this car is for me.

OK very plain looking at the very best. Well next to an RX-8 anyway.
Evo is a masterpiece of technology.
Like most of you , I have an RX8 on order and would have nothing else right now.
Had the RX8 not happened at all , the Evo would be top of my shopping list.
It is one of the ultimate drivers cars. Not dream bodyshell. Not badge-snob. DRIVERS cars.
Congratulations on a fine choice.
Morgan.
PS - $30K ??? Damn ! It is $45K here in the UK ! ! You guys get *everything* so cheap ! (although our RX8 is comparable price for some odd reason...)

I think the evo is ok. Its just to boxy looking but its not ugly like some people who over exaggerately barf at it. If it weren't for the boyish racer look i would have gotten the evo over the rx-8, but the stylish looks of the rx-8 just captivates me. I am a little dissapointed hearing the rx-8 low numbers on performance wise.
Congrat rev! The EVO is a great car. Although I don't agree with some of the cosmetic changes they did to the VIII, I'm still glad it's finally here in the states. I haven't test drove it yet (dealer was an ***), but I have sat in one. The driver seat has to be one of the best production car seat I have sat in. In fact, I wish the RX-8 seat was a little more body hugging like the EVO's. Again, congratulation on purchasing such a fine performance machine.
Thanks guys for the compliments.
In the end, my top three choices were the EVO, the S2000 and the RX8. I realized I like a very tightly tuned, firm car and the RX8 was not the car for me (though a Mazdaspeed RX8 or RX7 would get a very close look). I still love the concept of the rotary, but hope the fuel economy issues can get resolved (who knows perhaps after the engine break in and the engine starts running leaner the fuel economy may get closer to the original estimate of 20/30???) In addition, I think the RX8 has an excellent platform (better than than the EVO) and can be used to make an excellent high performance car.

You need to get some appreciation for other cars and what they are designed for. More importantly, get some respect for the other members of this forums' choices.
Well said farsyde
Wherever you go on a vehicle BBS you always get people who flame everything else.
I have respect and time for anyone who appreciates a car for its driving ability over and above its cosmetics (though of course it is nice to have both :D)

The evo performance wise is awsome. It will eat up most at the line. Handling is great. Looks well thats eh another matter. But to each his own right?
Imho The best feeling in the world is when your whole day has gone wrong, you get into your car and your car pushes you back in the seat.... you find some twisties and the cares of the world just melt away. The Evo will do this just fine hehe! Grats on the car.
Im not biased at all im actually picking up my black RX8 this saturday! RX8 to me just seems to have everything the entire package Power(Maybe) Handling, and awsome looks!
God my gf is so pissed im trading in my RSX TYPE S tho. Its a great car I have been wanting the rx8 for a good 3 to four years since it was a concept.

ignore the flames...if people only knew the racing history of this car, they would respect it more.
I'm very happy Mitsu decided to bring the EVO VIII to the states. It seems that folks over in JDM land always get the better toys, so this is one step closer to letting the Corp Execs understand the want and need for high performance machinery HERE.
Make sure you break in the car properly. I heard even the tires need proper break in.
