I like both shoes (Z3 based M Coupe and Z4 based M Coupe). The *** of the Z3 based M coupe represents a brutal display of power complete with flared rear haunches housing wide meaty tires and quad pipes burbling raw power.
I agree with whoever earlier in the thread that BMW has gone the wrong way with some of their designs.
current gen 7 series - botched
current gen 5 series - botched (not as bad, but the prev. gen. in M5 form was best)
current gen 3-series - looks good and looking foward to seeing the next M3
current Z4 - I like it and think it looks modern and fresh (F retro design)
current 6-series - acceptable but not as great design as the previous 80's 6-series
X3 and X5 - arn't bad for SUVS
My favorite BMW styling is the cars from the mid 70's through the late 80's (complete with inverted front ends and 4 round lights) with 3.0 CSL topping the list.

I agree, BMWs from the 80's are by far the most handsome out of Bavaria. Funny how there is a consensus that current cars from BMW, Toyota/Lexus are lacking something with their styling.
Personally, I think the line up from Mazda and Infiniti/Nissan are the best looking. The new G35 Sedan is super hot and hauls *** too!

I'm very close to trading my car in for one of those (we're talking millimeters) actually, some folks don't like the Bangle designs on the beemers, but I really dig the Z4 coupe and the new 3 series actually. I'm giving my ride one last hurrah with the recall stuff and with the bodyshop and just trying to get it "right", if after all this mess I'm still miserable every day I'm either going with another newer 8 (maybe even an MT), or I'm going to Z4 coupe/new turbo 3, it gets really old paying a car note every month and being unhappy, and I'm to the point now where things are going to have to change or I'm going to say f it and get a 500 dollar shitcan and be done with cars for a while, or splurge on something I've always dreamed of owning. (ie; beemer, C6, maybe I'll get an early start on my dream resto rod and go finance enough money to buy a beater and build it into a monster, there's also the NSX, Lotus Espirit, older ferrari, Porsche, something, anything, as long as I'm happy with it)

The 5 Series is the worst offender in my book. I wouldn't even consider buying an M5 (if I could afford it) because of this. And pricing... don't get me started.
The current 3 Series... it's a let down after the e46. The interior is uninspiring and the side profile looks bloated. The Coupe looks long. The price is freaking nuts.
Z4/ Z4 Coupe... they're ok. Look better in person, but... not really my thing.
I like the new Audi TT and Shooting Brake Concept better. The S4 and RS4 I also like better than the e90 3 Series.
The 6 Series and M6... I've seen a few here and they look dead sexy in black. but then again... what car doesn't?

the problem with your 8 is that you have an AT. You shoudl have researched and found out that you lose the upper 1/3rd of the rev range and that is where it makes its power.

The REAL problem is that my car has been pummeled by hail one year (do a search for hail damage and you'll find my thread) and was never fixed right after that, when I took it back to say wtf??!!, they half assed it and on top of that, made me pay them 100 bucks they said I originally owed them and they "forgot" to charge me, on top of me paying for my own rental while they fixed their f-ups.
Now we have this year, driving my normal daily rush hour hell, I get hit behind HARD by some kid and pushed into 3 other vehicles, I leave the scene with a drivable car but it's making noises, it's driving like ****, and it's now beat to hell once again and it wasn't even fixed right originally to begin with. Add to that I get hail damage later on that day, same f-in day, and you can see where this crap might get on someone's nerves. So the next shop does okay, but they take 2 months, do an average job, and when I get it back it still drives like ****. It's been 2 years plus now where my car has been jacked up all due to other people or mother nature, and I've had it. I had a similar experience with my previous vehicle, a heavily modded mini-truck (minus airbags) that kept getting hit, kept breaking, I spent practically every weekend either under it or under the hood fixing something, then it got broken into etc etc etc. This is why I'm looking at new cars, maybe needing a fresh start or just needing to buy a piece of **** and stop trying for a while. This has absolutely nothing to do with my choice in transmission and everything to do with being hammered over the head for 2 f-in years on a car I dearly love that nobody in this town can seem to repair/fix/whatever to average standards, much less mine.

I researched this car pretty heavily, I drive 20 miles + to and from work every day and never get to touch 3rd gear on most days, since this is my only car do you really think I'd want to fight a clutch in that **** day in and day out? I purposely picked the auto, I got a screaming deal on it, and I have no problems keeping up with the MTs on our club drives, and we don't exactly flowerpuff our way through the twisties etc. on those runs. If I get another car, and that's a big if, it will be an auto too.

thats the profile of the car so i give it the benifit of the doubt, still have to see it all around. one thing i wish that the rx8 would be the same in, is that it can hold the book value as well as a bmw, cause they suck when it comes down to it.

yea it looks like the 8 is a car you should plan on having for a loooooong time to make it worth having. Keep it, drive it and enjoy it because you are going to end up upside down on it if you try to get out of it. Thats a shame cuz its such a great car.

Maybe you're just too tied to the boxy bimmers of old? Nothing wrong with nostalgia, but progress is a good thing. Or maybe i'll be crabbing on a message board in 30 years claiming how the 2036 5-series design sucks compared to the 2006!
Haha.

Ha. Im saying when a BMW goes by, I look at it. When a Mercedes or Audi goes by, it might as well just be a hyundai because it doesnt attract my eye. They look dull, and safe. The audis are getting a little better on the front, but they still just look like every other sedan from the coporate nose back. Its boring.
And why the hell does my apostrophe key bring up my search function on this site!! so thats why there are no apostrophies in that post. If you wondering.

I've tried several different shops (counting ones including my previous vehicle) and nobody in this town (and I'm sure elsewhere) does it right any more, they just do it fast as they get paid regardless of the quality of their work. I guess I get spoiled watching overhaulin' on tv where they build show quality in 1 week, and these people around here can't even get it back to "normal" in 2 months. There's nothing to make them accountable it seems, sure they have a warranty etc. but what good is that when it's still wrong afterwards? Oh well, I'm really not one to give up easily so I'll probably stick it out and make this work somehow, just not sure how yet lol
