Official - Toyota GT86 - 2596lbs
People have speculated for a while, but now over at Fft86club the official specs for the Toyota GT86 came out in Geneva. Not too shabby...
Thoughts on 2596lb weight? That's of course ~400lb less than an RX-8.
It only makes me wonder what an RX-8 like car "would have been" with a base weight like this, then with some weight reduction how much more awesome it would have been in acceleration, handling, and still be able to take 4 track tires in the back.....

my other car is a 787b
GT - 86 - 2596lbs / 200hp = 12.98
Rx8 Sport - 2850lbs / 230hp = 12.39
Its a lot smaller than the Rx-8. I was surprised when it showed up to cars and coffee. Nothing to worry Rx-8 owners about - other than having fun with GT86 owners on mountain roads.

Well the 230hp is kind of overrated... there's only 1 dyno floating around the web of the FT86 and it shows it making around 170whp, not sure what kind of dyno though. RX8 dynos around 180whp right? Only time will tell I guess.
Also the weight quoted above is european spec weight I think, which is less than what it would be on spec sheets in the US. An S2 RX8 is supposed to be 3060lbs US (I think that includes 3/4 fuel and some luggage or something). Not sure what the euro spec weight of the RX8 is, is it 2850lbs? US spec weights of the BRZ floating around seem to indicate closer to 2690lbs.
Anyway, it'll probably be a fun car but I'm not a fan of the macpherson struts in front =\

I'm going to test drive the BRZ when it arrives and go from there. I may go with that or find a used R3. If the performance is close enough I may spring for the extra 10mpg and go with the Subaru. I would think the 8 should have enough to outperform the BRZ but probably not by much.
