Official "Top Gear" Thread!
Top Gear is BACK!!! [Plays "The Boys Are Back In Town"] If you religuosly download/watch the show like me or just catch clips here and there then this is the thread for you! I'll make it plain that although you can refer to that other show Fifth Gear, for simplicity this is just for Top Gear. (Go make a Fifth Gear thread if you want.)
I'm pretty sure that if you own an RX-8 and are reading this then you have seen the Awesome review segment Top Gear did on the RX-8, one of the many great highlights this show has put out. Among this, the exotic cars, celebrities, and odd car challenge segments, Top Gear is quite possibly THE most renown car show out there today!
If you're like me and don't have BBC2 then you can get a hold of the episode torrents at FinalGear.com: http://www.finalgear.com/ Otherwise I'd suggest trying to download it using a P2P like Limewire. Segments can be found all around with a little searching.
Further Note: This post coincides with the recent airing of the Season 9 premier. This season has been highly anticipated not only because of the usual exotic cars and strange camaraderie among the hosts but also because of Richard Hammond's near devastating jet car crash while filming that sent him to a hospital in a coma with brain damage. So by all means feel free to talk away!

Would you believe we are at episode 3 of 2005 in Australia...
I think its episode 6 where the MX-5/greyhound test is shown....
So we have 2006 to look forward to..probably at the end of the year 07

Yeh, one of my favourite shows. I have the digital Cogeco package and just started getting it this past year.
Renesis 8 are you on Rogers....they should carry BBC Canada. That's where I've found it.

Last year sometime I posted a thread directing people to top gear videos and Ike showed up to point out that it was a repost (um...duh? It's too cool to go away)! If he comes here and does the same thing, don't be surprised.

This week's episode
In case anyone hasn't heard/read already, this week's episode features a segment with the RX-8!!!
Here's TG's write up preview:
Here's TG's write up preview:
After last week's record-breaking return, Top Gear TV is firmly back in the groove. The dancing girls have been sent home - sorry, Jeremy - and normal service has been resumed... if you can call maxing a Bugatti Veyron, crashing a train and discussing ********* with Hugh Grant 'normal'. To find out what happened backstage at filming, check out our behind-the-scenes gallery.
On this Sunday's show:
Captain Slow and the Bugatti Veyron
As you might have gathered, TG rather likes the Bugatti Veyron. Not least because the 1,001bhp monster has a claimed top speed of 253mph. But will it ever actually go that fast?
Armed with the Veyron's special 'go really fast' security key, James heads to the five-and-a-half-mile straight at VW's maximum security test track in Germany to find out.
In the news this week...
Find out why Porsche is keeping everyone in the dark about its new Cayenne, what the TVR house band sounds like, and why Prince Charles has lined his garage with petrol.
Also, the boys check out a 'supercar by George' (can you guess which one it is?), discuss their best and worst drives of the past six months, and reveal why undertakers will soon be out of business.
Hugh Grant in a Reasonably Priced Car
You've probably heard of him. Yes, he's a real, proper Hollywood star and, according to Jeremy, the very man for whom Star in a Reasonably Priced Car was conceived.
Hugh Grant - foppish Englishman extraordinaire and star of Notting Hill and Love Actually - ditches his Bentley GTC for our Chevrolet Lacetti and takes to the TG test track to show off his full repertoire of curiously endearing blasphemy.
The Three Coupe Challenge
Want a coupe for around £25,000? You're spoilt for choice, with the brand-new Audi TT, Alfa Romeo's gorgeous Brera and the manic-revving Mazda RX-8 all vying for your pocket money. After a heady row, the boys couldn't find a clear winner, so they decided to settle the debate in that time-honoured fashion: a good old game of golf.
Train Crash TV
It might surprise you, but no one's ever asked Top Gear to make a public information film. Until now. Jeremy dons a high-visibility jacket and a pair of hard hats to extol the dangers of pensioners, level crossings and, erm, high-visibility jackets. OK, so he got a bit confused. Basically it's all an excuse to pile an express train into a Renault Espace at high speed, with seriously spectacular results.
The new episode of Top Gear hits your screen at 8pm on Sunday February 4. Don't miss it.

Finalgear.com has graciously uploaded a torrent for downloading ^.^ Here it is, Enjoy!
Be warned that cause of technical difficulties that it is a 700MB rip; they'll have a 425MB copy sometime this week they say...

Extraordinary Engineering
On the RX8
'put it on a track and you quickly realize what this car is all about'
'It is a proper, blue blooded driver's car'
On the rotary
'you can thrash it mercilessly and it'll thank you for it'
But they liked the Alfa
and the TT beat the '8 on the track time

Did anyone else think it was funny that 1) One of the ones arguing against the RX-8 owns one, and 2) the one driving the RX-8 was the one who was all for the 350"zed" last time?
I know it's a show and that's what they're supposed to do, I just thought it was comical.
P.S. I've only been able to watch the first 10 minutes so I don't know what goes on after that point.

Not sure what the price diff is back in the UK btw the 8 and the TT - but here in Singapore it is probably in the region of GBP 20 - 30k.
It had better look better, sound better, take you round the track quicker AND have a full time hottie in the skimpiest bikini imaginable sat in your passenger seat for that price difference.
Otherwise I'd happily stick to my 8 thank you very much....but of course I'm biased
