Thanks for the leak. Anyway, the Subaru BRZ would be my pick.

I'm impressed, but not amazed yet. It seems like it will be a great, lightweight car. Interested in seeing how it actually performs and the overall feel it has. Based on what we know so far, it definitely has potential to be a fun car.

I get the feeling I'll be more interested in the Subaru version, but it's still kind of speculation at this point.

from all the news I hear about the new boxer engines and deforming blocks at assembly, I'll keep the wankle for now.

this car could have so much win if they just did a beefy Inline 4 or bring back the 2jz, I know I am not the first to say it, but I won't be the last either.

Interesting how in their training materials they compare to the RX-8 when there is nearly no longer an RX-8 (w/Wenkel!) to compete with.

It's just like rotary people to complain that something is underpowered.

Also interesting that for how light it is, and its 4 cylinder engine, its only making 30mpg on the highway in the base, 28 in full trim. In comparison, the gigantic Mustang V6 with 300hp is getting 31mpg. Idk, but I think this car is going to be a tough sell in the states. They basically made a less powerful, lighter, 2 seat piston version of the RX-8. The car isn't out yet, and its already obsolete. The new 2.0T Genesis coupes will have 270hp. That said, this car will probably handle better than any car mentioned above.

Bingo! Except it is a 4 seater like the RX-8 and it's supposedly able to carry forur tires in the back seat - like the RX-8. Don't forget the far better gas mileage and comparable engine low cg and weight!! Quite an acomplishment @ 200HP considering Mazda's latest SkyActive 167-hp 2.5L 4-cylinder.

Will Mazda feel the HP heat and put something comparable power/weight wise in the new MX-5 or keep their HP blinders on regardless?

It has less power and torque than the 8. It is lighter though, and I'm sure it's peak torque will be down low compared to the 8 so acceleration will probably be about the same as our 8s. This I'm sure will be Toyota's and Subaru's base model. I'm sure they'll have blown versions soon.

Peak torque is at 6600 rpm vs RX-8 at 5500. Still, should be a fun car.

peak tq there and redline is where?---Right?
It is NOT a performance car--it is a good try and may develop into something?

The overall torque curve matters most... if it's close to flat and just happens to peak at that point, it's not necessarily bad. That's why I'd like to see more about how it actually performs.

Toyota version has 7500 rpm redline. Funny you say that - it has optional performance parts

RX-8 has close to 90% of peak torque as early as 2500 rpm by the way - It's no slouch for what it is although people always say it has "NO" torque. It just would have been better suited to a slightly lighter chassis.

i keep on seeing ppl said rustang gets 31mpg but in real life, does it really get that mpg? Its fairly easy to get high mpg numbers consider how bad the government tests are ... Anyway that should be an interesting car, 2600 ish pounds is pretty light for today's standard

Now (Almost) everything you want to know/see about the Toyota FR-S technical design in pictures and words has been leaked! {Apparently linked images from their forum no longer work}

http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2131

PS And (yes!) a selling point/diagram shown is 4 track tires stowed behind back seat, along w/a helmet! Or golf bags

That will likely improve as apparently they are also offering...

"床下フルアンダーカバー *グレードにより異なります

based on the grade, a full underbody diffuser is available"
