that was a really unbalanced test group. The put the R/T challenger against the SS Chevy, thats just not fair. The SRT challenger has upgraded suspension, and bigger horsepower, to put it much closer to the Camaro. And the Mustang they picked had upgraded suspension package, so no wonder it handled better. They seem like they just grabbed whatever car they could get their hands on and tested with that. I agree that the camaro would win overall, I love the new Camaro, especially the looks, but winning in that test is kind of like winning a game of poker with a stacked deck. It isnt gratifying unless you win in fair and square

I think what they were trying to do was to test the best that each brand had to offer. Though they should have used the SRT, even then compared to the numbers it has placed in previous tests the Camaro still would have had a very slight edge. The only thing the Camaro needs now is a track package, which will only include shocks, springs and sways, it already has the tires and brakes. With a track package it would dominate, I suspect a factory track package could be had for 2K. You should go on the Mustang forums and read all the posts, they arte hurting over there

The SRT8 isn't meant to compete against the Camaro SS. It sounds weird but its $10K over the base price of a Camaro SS. Its fight is with the Shelby GT500. The Challenger RT (while not standing a chance against the Mustang GT or Camaro SS) is priced to fight against them. All these cars start ~$30K and are still similarly priced with options. These are the 3 cars the somewhat average-Joe could afford. It wouldn't make much sense to throw in the Shelby GT500KR and come to the conclusion that the Mustang is better than the Camaro or Challenger. I thought it was an awesome comparison and I'm really glad the Camaro won. I like the other two cars but the Camaro is the only one I would actually buy with my money. Speaking of which I'm 95% certain I want to sell my RX8 and get an SS in a year or so. Especially after they said the Camaro had a better quality interior than the Mustang!

I wouldn't want GM to have a Track Pack for the Camaro. Its performance is fine as it is. If they did offer it, that would be the new standard for the Camaro, which would increase its price (NOT something GM should do; the car is priced perfectly). Notice nobody is comparing a regular Mustang GT. They all have the Track Pack, meaning its more expensive, meaning its more embarrassing for Ford when the Camaro wins a comparison test. Although props to Ford for getting the Mustang to handle so well. But thats usually been the case for Camaro's and Mustang's: The Camaro lays down more power, while the Mustang has more control of it.

BTW Motortrend compared the V6 Camaro to the V6 Genesis and the results were pretty strange. The Camaro handled better and got more mpg than its foriegn rival. Thats not how import vs domestic comparisons usually turn out! Whats going on here?!

I see your point red Rex, but considering the only car that had over 400bhp was the camaro in this test, but all of them have versions that will bring in there. Yes, to get in the 400hp club with the challenger would cost more, but thats the beauty of performance comparisons. He didn't say that price played any role in their comparo. Just that they were all pony car reimagined for the new century, and all had similar stats, which wasn't true. If cost was the reasoning behind what packages they chose, then they should have said that. As is, they took the top of the line Camaro, and put it up against two versions of the other cars that werent at their best.
As I said before, I still would pick the Camaro as well, and may very well get one in a year or two but this test wasn't a win for me.

Hmmm. I only need to see a Camaro in real life on the inside and out for me to make up my mind to buy it eventually. I still owe about $11K on my RX8 but if I sold it right now I could get maybe $15K. I would have a few thousand dollars by the time I made it out of basic and A school too....

God! Cars have to be the WORST investment you could make but they're SO tempting!!!

That title is reserved for women. Cars come in at a close second, though.
