i bring you good news, if you are not a ferrari fan. i hope this rumor is true. :ylsuper:

Ferrari may already be working on a 'B' version of its newly launched F10 car.

Britain's Times newspaper referred to rumours "sweeping the Italian media" about the early performance estimates for the new single seater.

The report said it is feared the car is "not as good as the team were hoping for", despite Ferrari having stopped developing the F60 mid last season in order to focus on its successor.

Former Ferrari driver Gerhard Berger told Switzerland's Blick newspaper: "Even with Alonso, Ferrari's overall package is not as strong as it once was with Schumacher.

"They are now missing (Jean) Todt, (Ross) Brawn and the often underestimated designer (Rory) Byrne. And without the right people, soon you are lost," the Austrian added.

These rumors always have to be taken with a grain of salt. I remember last year, before testing, the farrari was said that it was gonna be totally dominant. Obviously not true. Besides, the ferrari that shows up in bahrain will most likely be fairly different anyway, just as it always is.

Oh gawd, are ye an enemy too?
stand up proud here i must!

Anyway Ferrari already complained about rule flaws that may bring another "rear diffuser scandal".
They said that those rules are too vague during a conference and that this may lead to too many different interpretations.
While I do agree that rules should be clear and not open to interpretations i think that this may link to well to what alfy reported regarding a "b" version already in the works :(

Ferrari thinks double diffuser saga could re-fire
Jan.30 (GMM) Ferrari is concerned the double diffuser legality controversy in formula one may be set to re-fire.

At the launch of the F10 on Thursday, technical director Aldo Costa said he thought at least one team was "on the limit" of legality with its 2010 design of the rear aerodynamic solution.

The initial emergence of double diffusers on the Brawn, Williams and Toyota cars last year caused great controversy, until the FIA said their rule interpretation was in fact legal.

"We were put in a very unpleasant position last year and we still think that the double diffuser is illegal," Costa told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Maybe the saga will just carry on."

Ferrari's chief designer Nikolas Tombazis admitted: "The double diffuser allows a lot of room for experimentation and this is what worries us."

By the time of the McLaren launch on Friday, rumours were circulating that 2010 cars would be debuting 'triple' and 'quadruple' diffusers.

"We've got a fairly extreme incarnation (of double diffuser), but we won't be alone in that -- we believe we will see some pretty extreme solutions from our competitors as well," McLaren's engineering director Paddy Lowe said.

On the launch stage, the rear of McLaren's MP4-25 was tucked into a corner, and the diffuser itself was apparently covered.

All three 2010 cars seen so far - the Ferrari, McLaren and Williams - feature very high noses, to allow maximum airflow to much bigger diffusers.

Lowe denied Ferrari's fears that the diffuser rules are still unclear.

"We think the interpretation is very clear," he said. "In certain aspects we have sought guidance from the FIA and they have come out with very clear interpretation, understanding and guidance -- and we think that has been made available to all the teams.

"We are hoping for a much cleaner start to the season then we had a year ago in terms of the teams' collective understanding of the basis from which we go racing," Lowe added.

I cant wait to see the diffusers! All the teams but Mclaren and Renault appear to be running the diffuser of their 09 car or an interim model. This is to keep those radical designs a secret surely. If the Mclaren and Renault are the an indication as to the diffusers this year, then i cant wait to see the Mercedes and Adrian Newey designs. The Renault diffuser is huge and the Mclaren has the diffuser from Hell!

Gary Paffet is handling the McLaren shakedown. He was fifth.

Although Hamilton is usually a couple of tenths to a second faster than their test driver so I believe the McLaren will be up among the top 3 as soon as the regular drivers start testing.

I AM A HAPPY MAN NOW! :) :) and I am sure I will be even HAPPIER after Wednesday's testing.

Move over Mclaren, the Japanese ROOKIE beat that guy named Hamilton and there is no way Button will be better. :)

Ferrari is BACK ladies.. and no crying allowed here. :)

Todays tests (Valencia):
1. Massa – Ferrari: 1:11.722
2. Kobayashi – Sauber: 1:12.056
3. Hamilton – McLaren: 1:12.256
4. Kubica – Renault: 1:12.426
5. Rosberg – Mercedes: 1:12.899
6. Barichello – Williams: 1:13.377
7. Buemi – Toro Rosso: 1:13.823

The first 4 are pretty close :)

Typical ferrari fans, always assuming. I firgured you learned your lesson by now. I guess you quickly forgot about 2008 championship race. let me refresh your memory.

Last few seconds of the race, Ferrari fans were going crazy. Until......,...
HAMILTON stole the show.

BUt yah, guess its just their nature.

If Kobayashi would have beat Massa, all the Hamilton "fanboys" (and there are many here) you all will be... Ferrari was beat by a Sauber!!!

Testing has invaluble meaning but granted, nothing matters until the first race. However, I love seeing the Hamilton fanboys taking a backseat now.

Of course I remember but I also remember 2008 when Timo let Hamilton pass, so he could win the championship? WE ALL REMEMBER THAT!!!

LOL . I have a quick question, where is your golden boy Alonso at? He must be putting on his make up.

bse50 02-02-2010 11:18 AM

Testing helps seeing if there are big gaps between the teams. It's a whole new car so it really means a lot. To know how a car goes you need to push it!
What if a car is consistently 1 second slower? No refuelling this year!
They do mean a lot but what we all need to consider is that just a little part of the circus tested the cars there.

Anyway, as a Ferrari fan, i didn't say much about Hamilton being a bit slower than Kobayashi... They are all there in the end. I would have been surprised to see a 1 sec. gap between the two! What's surprising is to see kobayashi there altogether.
Kubica is pretty fast as well, hope he does well this season.

I bet Ferrari are running with no fuel at all just to give Massa some self confidence back. In reality the Ferrari is the slowest of all the cars. Trust me, I know ;)

alfy28 02-02-2010 01:36 PM

With tongue planted firmly in cheek but with approaching two decades of experience behind him, Rubens Barrichello knew his comment would make headlines.

Asked by reporters at Valencia if he had any advise for Nico Rosberg, the Brazilian smiled: "Yeah. Get out of there. That is the only thing I can tell him."

Barrichello, 37, spent six seasons as Michael Schumacher's subordinate teammate at Ferrari, and sympathises with young German Rosberg, who will drive the sister Mercedes W01 in 2010.

"I am not being bad (negative) about it," the veteran of a record 288 grands prix said on Monday, after testing the new Williams FW32 at the same Spanish circuit as Schumacher and Rosberg.

"Knowing what I know, and seeing how fast Michael went today, it is going to be a tough job (for Rosberg). I wish him all the best because I think he is a talented boy who can be world champion," Barrichello added.

Despite debuting in Schumacher's last season in 2006, Rosberg, 24, was quoted by Germany's Auto Motor und Sport at being taken aback by the media on Monday.

"In the morning at the launch, 100 cameras were on Michael and only one on me," said the former Williams driver.

"I will get used to it and I understand it, and I am a racing driver. How many cameras there are for me is not important," added Rosberg

The problem is that M. Schumacher was faster than him with less laps.
I think that Schumi is going to be a fast lap guy this year while not being able to keep his perfection for the whole race. He doesn't even have the refuelling to pause!

alfy28 02-02-2010 04:20 PM

MS has alot on his plate. I would hate to be a driver, who was last known as the best driver by die hard ferrari fans, to do poorly.

i dont think he will do poorly, but just saying. A part of me is rooting for the guy, but 90% of me wants to see him get owned by hamilton. so i can just talk crap to MS fans :)

I will make sure I reference this in the future and make you eat your own words.:) :) No way Hamilton will own MS.. no way... This "old guy" still has a few tricks left. Heck becoming a World Champion (Alonso) when MS was still racing hard is an achievement that it will not be repeated. Hamilton, nor Button have what it takes to becoming World Champions when MS is racing on the car next to them.

Can't wait to see Alonso getting his make up done prior showing the rest of the world what he is capable of in a Ferrari. :)

yah i havent been watching any races. this year, i decided i just stick to F1. so no lemans, or rolex gt for me this year.
cant wait for us to fire our missles at each other :). come on march

Renesis_8 02-02-2010 11:47 PM

I can't wait for F1 season to start, the new cars, the new regulations, no refuel, are all very exciting things for me to look forward to.

Right now I am very eagerly waiting for Red Bull to pull the covers off their new car, however these cars we're seeing now are just interim cars. so we'll have to wait until Bahrain to see where everyone is.

Also, I want to see USF1 make the grid, then get spanked so hard they'll disappear after a few races =)

Hmmm as for the missiles firing thing, I haven't picked which side I'm on yet!! I havne't really picked a team I root for.

Btw, Polo, it doesn't matter how fast the Ferrari is because they break down with technical failures anyways.

Or they put in too little fuel so Massa will have to roll the last lap on fumes.

Ah the antics of Ferrari. Driving with passion and making mistakes :)

Little unknown fact: the 360 modena had a multi-piece crankshaft... that's where many of the reliability problems started.
Lesson learned? no, the first 430 had a very similar design, only later they switched for a single piece one! No wonder why their f1 cars are so unreliable :p

Going back to Schumacher:
I'm sure that he'll make Hamilton nervous IF they are capable of doing similar lap times. Hamilton is a very good driver when everything is alright but is prone to doing mistakes when being tailgated\challenged... Schumacher is the exact opposite.
What I like about him is the approach to a race, very professional and i'd say an all around one. He is one of the few drivers capable of setting a car on his own.
Then there's Massa. Often bashed, often depreciated but still willing to race after a so tough accident. What i like about him, in this case, is that he always smiles and does his best no matter what. He's one of the drivers that would rather crash than finishing 3rd instead of 2nd, or 1st.
Put the asshole (Alonso) in the mix, he reminds me of coulthard... if he drove covered wheels car he would be pitting anybody before a turn just to pass'em.

That's going to be a good mix to watch if they're close together. Vettel, Kubica and Kobayashi will be an added value.

This Year we'll see if Alonso is a true world champion or if he just won because of a downstream on ferrari's part.

All of this provided that they have good cars, otherwise there's nothing you can do if the ferrari is powered by the fiat 500 engine with the chassis of a ducato :)

We all know he won because Renault had the Michelin tires and Ferrari had the Bridgestones.

The difference between the two tire specs those years was huge. Otherwise Schumi would have had 2 more feathers in his hat and Alonso would get his well deserved "I am almost best".

In 2007 Alonso hoped to reign supreme when Schumi vanished and look what happened. Beaten by a rookie! Now Schumi is back too and Alonso will suffer humiliating defeat after humiliating defeat. He will finally snap under the stress and spend the rest of his career racing tricycles against children in kindergarten.

Hehehe I bet I got Polo frothing there ;)

Alonso 1st during the morning sessions, did better than Massa.
De la rosa 2nd with .5 secs
Schumi 3rd, 0.8 secs

....and they had probably the best launch control device on the grid...AND their mass damper system...which was subsequently declared ILLEGAL the following year. I'll give it to Alonso...he had the car to beat in his first winning season and he drove the hell out of the Renault...but in his second season at Renault....pfffft...I think the guy just got lucky.

I have to agree. You never know how the car is configured. How much fuel they are using. It's just a test session and they may not be trying to go flat out.

BTW: Yes, I'm back. I drove 17hrs/1500 miles straight yesterday. Stopping only for gas. I'm still recovering.

PerSmitt 02-04-2010 12:50 AM

Exactly. It might give an indicator how it will be between two drivers in the same team but that is about it for now. Even between two drivers it can be difficult to say considering they might be analyzing different things in the car with different setups and fuel levels.

But I am glad Polo is glad, because I am glad when my friends are glad. However, I will try to be stoic when Polo weeps in March and hand him a tissue. ;)

You guys are cracking me up!! The awesome thing is that we ALL LOVE F1 and can't wait to start getting on each other's cases... lol

Next week will be a "dejavu" of this week... You'll see... BTW, you all know how much I root for the Ferrari Team.. Granted I'd also like to see RBR, Sauber and even Lotus succeed. :)

And for the record, I could care less of the Mclaren puppets... See what just happened yesterday? They could not get the right seat for Button for God sakes! Shouldn't they have this done ahead of time? He might be wearing a #1 but we all know he'll be #2... we all know that.

Bring it on... I am getting lots of Visine for all the cry boys here :) :)

GO Ferrari!!
Carlos
