I had my Mazdaspeed hat on , all night and the next morning i was getting the look of death from alot Porsche owners! It felt good to be hated on!

Oh RotaryGod you would of loved the sneering comments that were coming from the Porsche heads, esepically when the # 70 was pulling away from the Porsches coming out of the corners!

So, unless they can get a 3-rotor version of the new 16x into that HP category, the chances of someone fielding a Mazda rotary powered DP in the future and winning is fairly remote. Too bad 'cause we'd ALL love to see it!

I personally don't want to see a Mazda powered DP. Don't make a Mazda look so ugly!
The DPs don't have 800+hp, more like 500+. A 3-rotor could possibly be competitive @ 10k+ rpm. A 3.6L NA porsche engine can compete there, I have no doubt that the 3-rotor can match that.. but as for torque................, this would make it impossible, since we can't have weight advantages like GT class.

It's been a long 15 years since a RE powered racer won at the Daytona 24, so it's great to see RE power back on top of the GT class. The IMSA glory days seemed so far away!
The SpeedSource boys brought home the SpeedSource/Castrol RX-8 home ahead of a Porsche armada that was unrelenting, it was great to see... Congrats to the whole team! I communicated with John D, of Mazda, and Sylvain, SpeedSource, shortly after the race, and I can not tell you how excited and happy they were.
Guys, please feel free to leave a small message of congratulations to the boys at following the RN.COM story, as we are in direct contact with the SpeedSource squad, and they truly appreciate hearing from all the RE faithful!

The win marked the first for a production-based GT-spec Mazda in the race since 1993 when Dick Greer, Al Bacon Peter Uria and Mike Mees took their RX-7 GTU to victory lane. All in all, 22 Mazda-powered entries have now triumphed at Daytona International Speedway.
The historic win also marked an end of an era for one of the manufacturer's archrivals. The 2008 race was the first time that Porsche has not at least won class in the Rolex 24 race since 1993, the year of the last Mazda victory.
Sylvain said told me right after the race.... "today is a win 4 all rotary fans"

well, on the RX7club there is a thread about ceramic seals and the current 2 rotor record holder makes 1000+hp out of the 13B (ran a 6.8xx @ 197mph) and has been running on the same motor all season. I don't see how, with the advancements in apex seals (and soon to come corner seals), a 3 rotor wouldn't be able to be competitive in the DP class.

The ALMS is going closed cockpit soon. There isn't much engine restrictions, they just hand u restricter plates.

read up on the LMP2 thread. Theres a lot of information in there. They could run from 3-rotor, 4-rotor, 2-rotor SC or TC.

Hey guys, i'm wondering if it is possible for the RX-8 to compete in 24hours of lemans.
There is a restricter plate rule for rotary engines under the ACO regulation for GT2 class.

For some reason, I thought they sealed up the rear doors, but they still function.
We (Downing Atlanta) won the Daytona SRP class in 01 with a 4 rotor powered Kudzu; so his statement is GT specific.
